Do you have any New Year's Eve traditions?

I love going out on New Year's Eve. I know a lot of people stay home because they don't like crowds or what not, but it is always the most exciting time to go out for me. I always wear something white to symbolize a clean slate. Do you have any traditions?

We've always stayed home and made our own fun (although the definition of fun shifted over the years--four kids and all!)

Im from Texas so my family has always done the black-eyed peas route.

Let people start the new years by walking. Worked every newyears for thirty years, including tonight.

Party to watch the ball drop where we live. I love crowds and will be damned If I am going to let threats stop this tradition!

as teenagers my parents had traditions at home to keep us from going out. My Dad would cook a hog's head in a big roaster and blackeyed peas for a midnight meal and we'd have all the soul food goodies (chit'lins, pig's feet, etc.)as well as snacks through the night. It was so bizarre and fun that we always stayed home for New Year's and brought our boy and girl friends as well. We were allowed to drink a little and play loud music and we did a lot of fun stuff like play darts.

For years after that my family always had this tradition. However my Dad passed on and you can't find hog's heads anymore. I'm trying to keep the tradition as best I can. I am cooking blackeyed peas and I made some pickled pigs feet two days ago. Don't know if I'll make it to midnight. Also I don't drink anymore so it sure won't be the same as it used to.

Year before last I made chit'lins but my Jewish friend turned kosher so I she won't eat them anymore.

It's hard to have New Year's without pork or alcohol but my friend is going to fix dinner on New Years Day this year. We'll see what she comes up with.

get together with a small group of close friends. We do a variety of things: eat, play games, watch videos, or just chat. It's normally very nuturing for me and them. On New Years Day, I ususally do something with someone or a group and I ALWAYS/ MUST eat black eyed peas (it's an old southern tradition that my precious grandmother passed down) for good luck for the year. Eventhough I'm no longer a southerner, I still have to eat the black eyed peas!

Every year for the last 17 I have worked it.

Whee. What fun.
