Some Radio History: Radio Collage From The Night Lennon Died
Since the anniversary of John Lennon's assasniation is upon us, I thought I'd post this mp3 of Radio in NYC the night Lennon died. It was sent to me several months ago from a listener, and it's worth a listen:

It's about 12 minutes long and is on the fly fipping of the radio dial to hear the latest bulletins. As a historical document, it's very chilling to hear, and very moving, too. RIP, John

1. Thanks, e.
It was hard to listen to, but like you said, very moving.

I was in the middle of a big fight with my now-ex husband, but the minute the news came on the TV, we stopped, and for the next few hours, sat together on the couch, watching and listening in disbelief. It felt like being hit in the stomach.

2. I was 17
Watching Johnny Carson when the bulletin came in; I called my best friend (who was a Beatlemaniac like me) and told him the news. I was like you; I was in shock..

3. I remember what a shock that was
I was waiting in a car with my friend, listening to the radio. We were waiting for her husband and another couple, about to go out to dinner to celebrate my 30th birthday (a day early). I thought, "I hope this isn't an omen of what "being over 30" will be like.
I was approaching 21 when a friend's family suffered a murder-suicide attempt, which had never happened to anyone I knew.
And, another crappy"landmark" birthday memory, the one where I turned 50, this was happening:
<snip>
The very next day, Saturday 9 December 2000, according to CNN:
"... the U.S. Supreme Court ... voted 5-4 to stop the recount ordered Friday <8 December 2000> by the Florida Supreme Court ...
Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Justices Anthony Kennedy , Antonin Scalia , Clarence Thomas and Sandra Day O'Connor voted to halt the recounts. Justices John Paul Stevens , Stephen Breyer , Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter dissented. ...
As a practical matter, the 9 December 2000 ruling of the US Supreme Court indicated that Bush was winner of Florida and therefore President-Elect of the USA.

Sometimes I just want to cry.
