1. That is one of my all-time favorite songs ever, BUT
I prefer Rufus Wainwright's version. I'm not much of a Jeff Buckley fan.

k.d. lang did a lovely version of it too.

3. Rufus is great, but he made a mistake taking on this song
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 06:08 PM by MrCoffee
I'm not at all slagging Rufus, but I'd pick Buckley's version any day.

pretty much anybody who covers this has to know that they'll be judged against Jeff Buckley and found lacking.

6. We're all entitled to our opinions :)
I think the reason I love the Rufus version more is because I heard it first. I think this is one of those songs where the first time you hear it is such an intense, almost spiritual experience, that nobody else can ever duplicate it for you again. It's branded into your heart forever in that moment--song, singer, and setting.

At least, that's how it is for me.

2. I own both the Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley versions
I prefer the Jeff Buckley cover much better than the Leonard Cohen original...not to take anything away from Cohen, who is a genius songwriter.

Jeff Buckley's version makes me cry every time I listen to it. It is a spiritual experience for me.

To answer your question. Yes, I do care about this music.

9. Oh, my God, I'm so lame!
Sorry for being so stupid. Thanks for posting. I found a live version that I have never heard before. I will now pull out my Tim Buckley, Leonard Cohen, and Jeff Buckley for my listening pleasure. :hi:

14. Rufus got outplayed on TWO covers...
this one and Across the Universe. I like Fiona Apple's cover of Across the Universe better than Rufus'.

And i own all of his stuff. love his originals, not so wild about his covers.

10. I used to live below four college boys. One of them and his GF got busy - loudly - to the Wainright
version. They put it on repeat.

So, I downloaded it...the kd lang version...the Buckley version...the Bono version (:puke:)...the original Cohen...and decided the next time they went at it, I'd blast all of the versions back up at them. They never did, though...

16. I'm gonna have to vote for Rufus' version, too
Because I think this song works better with piano than guitar, and also because - nitpick alert - I prefer that Rufus enunciates the word "you" versus Buckley's more casual "ya."

Ahhhhh time to boot up iTunes...

18. I downloaded it ages ago
And am listening to it as we speak.

I've told my partner I want this version of this song played at my funeral someday.

20. Best. Song. Ever.
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 06:42 PM by Finnfan
I have it in many different versions, including Buckley's, Wainwright's, lang's, and Cohen's.

There are some nights when I'll just listen to this song over and over again. It's perfect in every way.

21. k d lang's version
is as close to a perfect song as you can get, imo. I never fail to be totally captivated while listening...it's stunning in its beauty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW_H-VeTv8g

The Jeff Buckley version never did anything for me.
