I was completely blown away, and am laughing right now as I type this.

Oh, how about "Tarkus" by Emerson Lake and Palmer? Or "Billy the Mountain" by Frank Zappa and the Mothers? Each of those has to run 18 minutes plus.

14. back in the day
I dated a DJ and he would put on "long songs" so we could go out onto the roof of the studio and do what hippies did :smoke: He could hear what was going out over the air and monitor it via a small speaker that was set up. This one time he put on "In a gadda da vidda" and halfway through it started to skip (these were the vinyl days, boys and girls). I thought he was going to have a heart attacking running in to fix it. Needless to say, in our "condition" we couldn't stop laughing.
hahaha! fond memories! :hippie:

34. Yes, Procol Harum, ELP
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 07:16 PM by rsammel
Yes- Close to the Edge
Procol Harum- In Held Twas in I
ELP- Tarkus and Karn Evil 9

Pink Floyd's already been mentioned. I would add that The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon are largely through-composed, certainly at least the section from Us and Them through Eclipse. Also, Side 2 of Abbey Road is also like this, as is the "Ballet for a Girl from Buchannon" off of Chicago II. If live albums are allowed, Chicago's Liberation jam off of the Toronto album could be added (along with boatloads of Hendrix, as well as Led Zeppelin's many Whole Lotta Elvis versions)

Honorable mention to Traffic's Roll Right Stones at 13 1/2 min and The Incredible String Band's A Very Cellular Song at about 12 1/2.

Edit: Forgot Spock's Beard, which has one or two long songs on most albums. I'll go with End of the Day and The Great Nothing.

39. An early Genesis album {when they had a woman singer}
had an entire album side with "In a World Without You" on it-I still remember some of it from the 60's but the Freak Out album by Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention has something called "Return of the Son of Monster Magnet" that runs for less than 15 minutes but it is so COOL even today...

43. Dazed and Confused!
Nothing can beat Jimmy Page's guitar solo with the bow, John Paul Jones's bass line after the solo, and John Bonham's insane drumming, not to mention Robert Plant singing along with the guitar.

Best Led Zeppelin song EVER!
