Anybody care to lend me some excel help?
I can't remember how to *delete* the A, B, C, across the top row and replace it with custom column titles.

Anybody?

TIA.

3. Is this what you mean?
Convert existing row and column labels to names

1. Select the range you want to name, including the row or column labels.
2. On the Insert menu, point to Name, and then click Create.
3. In the Create names in box, designate the location that contains the labels by selecting the Top row, Left column, Bottom row, or Right column check box.

Note: A name created by using this procedure refers only to the cells that contain values and does not include the existing row and column labels

4. I don't think so. I just tried it.
I want to change the *A* in the *A* column to Last Name, the *B* in the *B* column to First name, etc.

6. The first row contains column names
You freeze the first row to keep them visible as you scroll. Import utilities know to find field names there as well.

5. I could be wrong
but I thought you had to keep those A or B or whatever, as the functions can refer to them more easily.

I always just put the column headers I want in the first row, then freeze that row so that it is always visible when I scroll (you do that by selecting the second row and clicking 'freeze panes' under the window menu.

7. You're exactly right. D'oh. I have to put the headers in the first row.
Thanks. I spent 45minutes trying to figure out what I already knew. :eyes:
