1. Off and on
When you are happy you know it
When you are not happy you know it.
Confused yet?

And when I'm happy, I feel like I get the joke and see the world for the barely functioning production that it is.

8. Generally speaking, yes I am
But I just looked at the number behind "federal income tax" on my pay stub and now I'm not happy at all because BushCo has a shitload of my money.

No, but seriously. I am generally a happy person. I can't really explain why or what it feels like though.

I'm sorry you're not happy. :(

11. I have a smile on my face
Because I was just reading a thread about the artificiality of the cultural mandate for diamonds to express love, and I had a flashback to two and a half years ago, when the last woman I dated, who demeaned, mistreated, and betrayed me like no one else ever had, as we were riding to the store in her car a few weeks after I gave her a silver dolphin ring as a gift, said, "This is a nice ring, but if you're going to ask me to marry you, you're going to have to get me one with a diamond."

I thank God that this problem solved itself a few months later. :D

Because I was willfully blind to everything she was doing to me. That was just one of one hundred thousand clues. I can smile about it now, though.

15. I am generally content.
There are periods of outright happiness.
Those usually involve family and friends.
What's it like?
Satisfying.

I sense that you are not happy.
Hence the question. (duh)

What's making you...if not UNhappy...at least NOT happy?
Is being not happy the same as being UNhappy?
Doesn't seem so to me.

18. No, But I'm Working On It Finally!
I've been stuck for 10 years at least trying to pretend that everything is okay, and that I have a good marriage, etc.

It's a farce! I haven't been happy for at least that long.

It's not all anyone's fault. I made decisions that led me here. I'm making decisions that will lead me out with any luck

Hope you find your way!

19. Reasonably so.
I'm struggling right now with a medication that might not be right for me, but I think I'm doing okay in terms of separating my actual feelings with possibly med-induced funks.

The medication has done wonders for my anxiety and OCD, but the downer side effect may mean it's just not the right medication.

Anyway, I'm not sure I answered your question!

39. Happy is not sweating the small stuff.
Sounds trite..but true.
Everyone gets sad or frustrated or just feels some self-pity now and again...and that's fine. But whenever the urge to wallow in my little problems hits...I try to remember how good my life really is.
Every time I feel like complaining about my weight or my age or a few wrinkles or that my husband doesn't seem to care much for me... I remember my 37 year old neighbor who died of cancer while her boys were just babies. I'll bet she wouldn't have given a damn about being a few pounds overweight. And I'll be she would have been thrilled to see 40 and enjoy a few wrinkles and watch her sons grow up.

It's all a matter of perspective.

42. As happy as I can expect to be
Put it this way -- I'm smugly satisfied. My relationship with my extended family is irreparable, but I have come to grips with it. My home life is very satisfying. My job gets better every day.

If what I think is going to happen to me happens within the next month I will be ecstatic.

This sure beats the alternative. A year and a half ago I felt down and thought my life was on a downward spiral.

It's all temporary, isn't it? We're up. We're down. We continuously alternate between the two. I find I struggle to stay on an even keel at all times so the highs are not too high and the lows are not too soul crushing and devastating.

Things have been up and down lately, that's for sure. But I am grateful for all of the good things in my life: my family, my friends, the roof over my head, my access to medical care (which I desperately need right now), my yoga community. I could go on and on.

56. I'm happy, but sometimes I forget
just how happy I am. I live in a city that I really don't like living in, but I have a really interesting job, I have the best partner anyone could ever hope or dream for, I have good friends and close family, even though I don't see them very often. I live comfortably and I'm working on a masters degree the equivalent of full time. I often get overwhelmed, frustrated or burnt out, but try and shake myself back into my own reality -- I'm a lucky monster and I should appreciate it more. My friends and colleagues tell me I'm one of the happiest people they've ever met, and sometimes I get surprised by that, as it's all relative -- I think I'm naturally an optimistic and happy person, so for me to be aware of my own happiness means I have to be doing something REALLY spectacular, if that makes any sense. I don't know what the reverse is like, as I've been lucky enough to be upbeat pretty much my whole life, apart from usual ups and downs.
