That's one in the WIN column for lowly peons...

As of Jan. 4, 2007, I've been employed by this company for 8 years. According to their vacation policy - I'm suppose to get 3 weeks at the 8 year mark. Works out to 1.5 weeks every six months, so according to my "feeble" math skills I was suppose to have 60 hours available as of 1/4/07

On Tuesday I put in a slip for vacation time 1/11 thru 1/16 (6 days 48 hours).

I get an e-mail this morning from our HR people in St. Louis (I'm in PA) - they tell me I only have 40 hours available, and that my "8 year" anniversary isn't until 2008.

Ok so about here, I could have hit the roof and throw a major hissy fit - especially since our HR people have a reputation for screwing things up - like vacation..

but I didn't, I decided to play "gee, now I'm confused...." I put down the dates I started, showed the "math", cut/pasted the vacation policy and asked then to explain what's up? If it was my mistake/misunderstanding... oppsy-sorry...

about 1/2hr later, I get a reply -- they had my start date and vacation accrual dates screwed up... their mistake... :D

It's always nice to win one of those. I remember working in a restaurant and having a couple come in right before closing and want the salad bar, which I was in the process of taking down. They asked for the manager, who just happened to be a really cool guy, and he told them "tough luck" (which almost never happens). Then he walked into the kitchen and announced, "This time, the assholes did not win". It was lovely.
