Poll question: What is your preferred career choice?
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 05:57 PM by Tiggeroshii
Wondering what people think are the career choices you guys would make when considering financial indepence, enjoyability, dependability and all other factors that would contribute to a good job. What would you say?

1. I plan to hit the lottery and retire to Fiji.
Until that happens though, my preferred career path is to count my blessings for my $14 an hour desk job for an incredible employer who actually treats his people like humans. My enjoyability comes from still being given the opportunity to be a useful viable employee in spite of my physical limitations. I also hope to get back to being a foster parent to special needs kids someday. This is not really so much a career, as foster parenting reinbursement is really more of a "break even" type thing.

the hit the lottery thing isn't likely to happen though since I won't waste my money on lottery tickets! :)

3. None of those have any guarantees. Go for what you enjoy the most.
Every senior near death that I've known met told me that his or her biggest mistake was playing it safe and not really living. Find something you enjoy and do it, even if you have to tighten belts.

4. I don't want one
I am finally having to face this in my late thirties, that I don't want a career, I just want a job, and I have been in flight from acquiring a career my entire life. It still gives me chills to think of describing myself by what I do with the words "I'm a _________."

22. Me too.
I took a lot of video/audio classes in college but it just seems, well it is, a very hard field to break into.

I couldn't afford to just play around trying to 'break in'. I need a real job that could pay the bills.

24. I'm hoping to shoot my first feature in '08.
And I'm planning to get a Super 8mm in March or April to shoot some shorts over the summer. (I adore Super 8mm, haha.) I doubt I'll "break in," but hey, at least I'll be able to say I tried.

But it would have had to be with older kids. The very young ones would drive me crazy.

11. Engineer
I didn't major in engineering. Most engineering programs have a fairly set program. You have to take a lot more required major courses than in most programs. I wanted to take classes in the the social sciences and humanities. I majored in biology and took over half my classes in the social sciences and humanities. It has been hard getting a decent paying job, not having gotten an advanced degree. It makes me wish that I had been an engineering major so I could have gotten a high paying job in research and development right out of college.
