WOW my first night
and I survived two battles in GD that were worse than anything in Iraq. It's brutal in there. Think I'll apply for citizenship here.

Sorry to say you are the brazillionth person to post those sentiments.
Thus,they are really dogeared,tired,and just plain old by now.

GD is a serious place to go, whilst the Lounge,in fact, will remind you much of your Jr. High School Cafeteria. I refer to it often as DUJHS.We dare not say "Cliques" when refering to the Lizzard tribes..so I refer to them as "tables".

People who regularly post here -self proclaimed "Lounge Lizzards"- wear their badge proudly. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself immensely.

6. While true
the OP should know that we "lounge lizards" are always here for moral support after the abuse of GD gets too much to bear.

I know I have been thankful for the sympathetic ear of those at my "table" when the GD has become a hellish nightmare of name calling and just plain ignorance.

21. Sometimes easier said than done
My screen name tends to be a direct target for those who do not have any real arguments when I post, and when that fails, well, there is always the "fundie" label (which has been slapped at me more than once in GD). It seems that too often the discussions are filled with not only no manners, but also no decorum, tact, civility, and alot of the time no real ideas either.

I don't take too much of what is said personally, but GD can be a deep hole of tangled ideas and is not for the faint of heart.

Happy New Year to you as well. Here's hoping next year isn't the last :)

23. I think GD is healthy.
It's a place where you can voice your opinion, no matter what. I like the Lounge, too, but you can't just discount GD. It's the heart of DU.

And I do brave it every once in a while. I have had some amazingly insightful conversations in there.

Unfortunately, those discussions have also been rife with idiots who want to do nothing but call people who don't agree with them names. Its kinda pathetic, but still fun and always interesting.

2. Expect to get bloodied in GD
Let me see if I can summarize:

Saddam is bad.
Bush is worse than Saddam and should be impeached immediately.
Edwards & Obama aren't talking that much about impeachment, so they are worse than Saddam.
Pelosi won't address impeachment so she is worse than Saddam.
Those three are Democrats, so Democrats are worse than Saddam.
I voted for Democrats, so I am worse than Saddam.
You are reading this, so YOU are worse than Saddam.

This is way beyond popcorn...who's making the kool-aid?

And don't let GD get you down - rest assured that the lounge is always here for inanity and respite from the horrors of open, anonymous (pseudo?) political discussion.

You would not believe the things I have been called in there, but just roll with it, lick the wounds, and go back in for more. I've gotten to the point where I just call people to carpet for not following the simple guidelines of polite debate. Its usually enough to either change a person's tone or send them packing.
