3. We wanted to set up an appointment to discuss the way the
assistant principal treated my daughter, and so I called this morning and when the secretary :eyes: called back, I had to decline the time because of the little one.

I was really apologetic. Then the principal called with a fucking HUGE chip on her shoulder about this and cancelling and everything and we got into it.

She's a fucking piece of work. Major CYA.

My daughter is barely 5', her friend is 4'10. What good comes from that?

I told that asshole principal that the only thing they accomplished was that none of the kids in that group will ever do a favor for a faculty member again.

20. She was asked by a teacher to type something up for the teacher
So she had a pass to go to the library to do so. On the way to the library, she made the egregious mistake of using the restroom and stopping by the commons area, (lunchroom) because she saw a friend who wanted to join student government and they hadn't been able to connect.

So, she there was a grand total of about 7 minutes where she wasn't where the pass said she should be.

One administrator saw her and a friend and just told them to get where they should be and this asshole went ballistic and hauled them down to his office and yelled at them for about 10 minutes about 'misuse of a pass' :eyes:

So, two days worth of detention. No biggie. But, I have an issue with his heavy handed tactics. This is a wussy school. The only issues are kids being late sometimes because they stop at Wawa for coffee.

So, that's it. The principal called me because we really wanted to address this and she was just an amazing beyotch. I've witnessed this guy almost bring kids to tears, he's a bully.

however, that was a long, long time ago.

I really have never understood why they have to harass kids who basically aren't doing anything that is wrong - our high schools are sending a very mixed message about responsbility when they treat kids over 14 like they are babies.

Sigh.

26. I suppose there are some kids that may need the drill sergeant
treatment (I've certainly seen that in some schools), but I really think some admins just relish the power that they have to intimidate others. You would think "don't do that again" would have been sufficient.

When I was Literary editor of the yearbook staff in high school, my teacher simply used to hand us a pack of signed passes. It's highly unlikely that would happen now and it makes me laugh to think of simpler times.

It sounds like your daughter is a great kid.

She's like most of her friends. She is making really good choices about drinking, etc. which is really a relief. And, interestingly, even though she is avoiding the parties with the alcohol and sex, she is still in such demand that her cell rings off the hook all day.

If only the other kids would see that they don't have to go to those measures to enjoy themselves. On New Year's Day, early in the AM, a 16yo ran a red light and killed some poor guy who was coming from work. His life is over, his family's life is in tatters and her life is ruined.

Not worth it.

life by this.

I think everyone involved in stuff like this should be civil. They are in the wrong, but they are also in charge at the school and allowed to enforce the rules, which she did break (although no harm done). If you freak out on them too hard, it might hurt your daughter more than help her, so go easy. She's going to have to deal with crap like this throughout life and she will hold her own. They are clearly assholes but unless your daughter is made of china, she's going to survive without a parent throwing the place up for grabs.

PS-I write this as someone who used to have a parent frequently throw the place up for grabs (hated it).

But, as the SCA Vice President of the school, she has brought it up to the administration numerous times that the punishment doesn't fit the crime and that some kids are being hurt by this guy's behavior.

It's uncivilized at best and part of my job is to teach her to spot and report injustice when she can.

39. Back in the old days
when I was in HS, we had a first-year (for our school, anyway) teacher who thought he was Chief of Gestapo. I was a library aid during first period and one of my duties was to take the past-due slips to the first period class of the folks who had overdue books. So one morning I've finished my rounds and am heading back to the lib when Mr Ahole spots me in the upstairs hall. Whatta ya doing outta class? Doing my job, explaining what it was. Yeah, you're going to the principal's office. O-kaaay. Since Principal and Asst were out of the office otherwise occupied, he presented his latest miscreant to the Soph counselor who looked at my schedule and informed Il Duce that I was, indeed, a library aid and part of my duty was to wander the halls. He left in a huff and Soph counselor and I exchanged rolling eyes.
Cpl Adolf was not asked back for a second year.

62. Okay.
Let's start from the very beginning...a very good place to start.

I had to reschedule an appointment with her..happens all the time. She called me with a chip on her shoulder the size of freakin' Manhattan because of it. (She's VERY busy you know :eyes:)

I don't make a habit of raising my voice to anyone until they give me a reason.

I was very polite to her until she started repeating things that simply weren't true, that my husband had called and stated that he didn't want to meet with the assistant principal (As. If, it was me who called and specifically stated that we wanted to speak with her about this asshole and that my child had lied. (I have an email from her teacher indicating that it was a miscommunication between her and her teacher regarding her typing up a 28 page review paper for her teacher's junior class and that the one who lied was the teacher to CYA, which frankly, given the behavior I've seen from these idiots, I don't blame her for.

When I realized that she was was simply repeating the same lies over and over, I let her have it and hung up.

Additionally, I have written documentation from her and the assistant principal regarding the 'incident' that is completely contradictory.

63. So what I've got so far is...
the principal had a chip on her shoulder because you rescheduled a meeting (fine with me actually, I get chips on my shoulder when people reschedule meetings with me, especially after the last minute), misidentified which parent cancelled the meeting (rather trivial mistake, don't you think), and told you that your child lied.

Can you prove that your child did not lie?

64. Yup. In the email from the teacher to the principal
which the teacher sent to me.

And, I don't get a chip on my shoulder when people reschedule. Life happens. She scheduled us for 7:40 meeting, told us we could have 10 minutes. I have a smaller child that doesn't go to school until 9.

And, as a county employee, if I wanted to take up her entire fucking day....so be it. If one of my clients wanted my attention for an entire day, I would suck it up and do it.

Kind of confusing.

"And, I don't get a chip on my shoulder when people reschedule. Life happens. She scheduled us for 7:40 meeting, told us we could have 10 minutes. I have a smaller child that doesn't go to school until 9."

Well, you didn't just reschedule the meeting with the vice principal, you cancelled it. Because you didn't like him. Presumably after you already made it. Doesn't strike me as terribly professional.

"And, as a county employee, if I wanted to take up her entire fucking day....so be it. If one of my clients wanted my attention for an entire day, I would suck it up and do it."

Yes, well the principals got other priorities. Other children for example, and their parents. Given what I've heard so far I'm with the principal.

66. Not surprising.
We didn't cancel, we rescheduled and it wasn't with the assistant principal, it was with her. We had some issues to discuss. My like or dislike is irrelevant. We NEVER had a meeting with him in the first place.

And what other priorities? *I* qualify as 'other children' and their parents especially since she put in writing that if we had any additional questions to please schedule a conference.

They fucked up. They didn't have their ducks in a row AT ALL. The two of them sent us vastly different written accounts of the situation and the *gravity* as well as quoting completely different paragraphs of the student handbook.

And, frankly, I don't give a rat's ass what you think. I told you at the outset of this conversation, I knew which side you would land on.

68. Alright... so you weren't scheduled to meet with the AP.
You were offered a rescheduled meeting with the principal the next day, but you couldn't make that. And you were offered a meeting with the AP but you didn't want that because you don't like him. I'm sure the principal has time next week or the week after if you really wanted to meet. Did you ask about that before yelling at her and hanging up? Should the principal have cancelled meetings with other parents in order to bend over backwards for you?

"They fucked up. They didn't have their ducks in a row AT ALL. The two of them sent us vastly different written accounts of the situation and the *gravity* as well as quoting completely different paragraphs of the student handbook."

"And, frankly, I don't give a rat's ass what you think. I told you at the outset of this conversation, I knew which side you would land on"

Well, no. And apparently you don't care about what your kids teachers, admins, and others think either. More's the pity. And I figured at the outset of this conversation that you didn't really have a valid complaint.

67. What? Did you read what I wrote past the subject line?
 I never HAD a meeting with the vice principal and I called to RESCHEDULE the meeting.

And how come my needs aren't met with the same 'priority' as others in your mind? I was very specific this morning when I told the secretary that the meeting didn't have to happen today or tomorrow.

You're just arguing to argue. C ya.

43. School Administrators are the worst in the educational system.
Edited on Wed Jan-03-07 09:17 PM by QMPMom
I went round and round with one school principal so much that we both have developed a purple passion hatred of one another. It ended up being a freaking "Shoutdown in the Special Ed Classroom" event.

I'd put up with enough and after he gave me a 30+ page letter detailing all my DD's sins, I flat out called him a liar in the classroom. In front of God and everybody, as it was a Catholic school. The yelling commenced and we both threatened each other with the police. (He was condoning locking my mentally handicapped DD in a storage closet for time out. My mentally handicapped *claustrophobic* daughter.)

I removed her from that school that very day (it was January) and kept her home until September when we got her into another school.

Some Administrators are on such a power trip that they cannot be reasoned with or talked to. This man was just such a person. My DH was a teacher in the same school system and he heard so much negative crap about this man that it was unbelieveable.

Hang in there Midlodemocrat. Do what you have to for your DD.

45. It's not even so much for her, as it is for the kids who
won't speak up. This guy is a freaking bully. I've been in education. BTDT. I know his type. The Mr. Macho I can do no wrong all kids are fucking pricks type.

I'm not going to let another child fall prey to this shit. It has to stop somewhere.

48. Why doesn't your kid handle this crap the way me and my friends did in HS?
We developed a variety of resistance tactics, ranging from behaviors that were technically non-violations of the rules but carefully calibrated to produce maximal annoyance in the Asinine Authorities up to the commission of victimless misdemeanors; I always considered this an indispensible education for life in the Fascist state that I have hoped my country would never become but that I have ever feared it might become ...

52. Just sayin that if your daughter got a bunch of kids to hum "Hail to the Chief"
whenever wazzisname walked by, she'd gain organizing skills and a healthy attitude towards authority. Jeez Louise!

59. Well, if I go to sleep, I can guarantee...
that it will not be with a high school principal whose name I do not know and who wants to photograph me in the nude at Walmart or at the Olive Garden.

I have always wanted to yell at a Principal, but I never got around to it.

The principal at one of my children's school is in big trouble. He said Christmas was a religious holiday.

;-)

I hope you can work this out and it all goes well in the future.

69. I know what kind of nightmare this can be.
I'm so sorry you and your daughter are going through it.

I'm not sure whether the principal at my son's old school was fired or retired after I got my son out of there. He was one of the most frustrating people I ever had to deal with.
