Tell me something
about yourself that makes you a remarkable individual.

C'mon...go look in the mirror. Think about the things that you like to do. What sets you apart from everyone else?

44. Sure there is...
I like you. You're quiet and thoughtful and don't fly off at the mere mention of certain 'forbidden' topics. You don't go on and on and on, either. Short and sweet. A lot of your posts are of the 'n/t' variety. You're succint and yet you get your point across.

Personally, I think that's pretty remarkable.

how do you get yours to stop doing that? Sometimes I can just give them some coffee and get them to play a nice game of chess but they've gotten into a pretty nasty argument this time. The two on one side are yelling at the two on the other side, who sometimes start yelling at each other.

Hmmm, maybe chess is too competitive for your guys. Maybe try some team-building execises, get them working together toward a common goal, you know? And if that doesn't work... I dunno. Maybe give them all individual projects, like fingerpainting or something. And if all else fails, take one of the big pink pills. Heck, take two.

That sounds nice. I know at least two of them would like that. But the British one is so stuck-up I don't think he'd like to. He's the one who keeps arguing WITH the other voice he sided with, but that's understandable, because that other voice is pretty radical.

Tell me about it. I learned the hard way. When I was a tweener, we lived in Alabama for a while. The deal was, I couldn't babysit for other people unless and until I could control my own brothers. I was standing in the kitchen one night when my parents were out, yelling at them over something -- when a moth flew into my mouth.

*shudder*

After that I didn't yell. As much.

Greener when inside, browner when outside.

131. We've still got a couple of feet in the yard...
and the side streets are still pretty nasty. The end of the driveway is a mess. The storm that came through before Christmas hadn't finished melting before we got smacked again last week, but at least the second one last week missed us. Hammered the hell out of the southeast and eastern plains, though. They're still digging out and hunting for their cattle to feed 'em out there.

We might get more on Friday.

Yippee.

139. The best advice I can offer is to read
and then write. And write. And write some more. Then, when you finish that, write something else. There really isn't any other way to learn than by doing, I think.

I'm motivated...I love doing it and I like to think I'm pretty good at it...my problem is a lack of discipline. I can always find something else to do. Something else to read. Something to clean. An argument to break up...

...and then there's DU and various other internet distractions.

I've written two novels, started a third and I've got a non-fiction series that I'm trying (albeit sporadically) to market, and I've probably got a couple hundred short stories in various stages of completion, from "Yech" to polished. The novels need work. Lots and lots of work.

I've got a new project that's still in the 'hmmmmmm' stages...my goal is to get that one out and on paper by the end of the year, along with a proposal and enough of it polished to start pestering agents again.

:P

27. At the risk of seeming élitist in a not-so-good way: lots of things
:D

I've always been set apart from others much of the time, sometimes by me, sometimes by them, and sometimes just by the way things are, sometimes to my detriment. Some of the things that set me apart are accomplishments or the results and byproducts of certain adventures, but if I'm looking deeper, closer to the root of it all, a big one would be absolute conviction that I can do anything. Not that this is unique -- it may be partly a result of this mindset of mine clouding my vision through projection, but I believe that most of us (if not all) could do a lot more than we think possible of ourselves and I can count among my acquaintances many people who I believe could do literally anything, and do it well, if they turned their energies toward whatever activity it is.

I also seem to have a degree of personal charisma, something I was told by others long before I reviewed the way my presence has seemed to affect people ever since childhood and decided that perhaps there was something to this charisma thing. I've never been a social person, a pack animal, a group member, or however else you want to describe it, so this alleged charisma has only rarely played a part in overt leadership and that kind of thing and more often just kind of leaves a trail of people behind me who have noticed me and will remember me. I was oblivious to much of that stuff for most of my life, until I started hearing from people about it. It's natural and I wouldn't even know how to force it if I wanted to...I think it's just something some people have, and a few years ago (when I realized I had some of it) I really began to notice it at full force in my father. Yes, ladies, I am at your reproductive service as a carrier of the Mojo gene... :D

105. Now *that's* the way to think...
Want it, learn it, do it. I've always tried to live like that. There isn't anything that I can't do and do well if I set my mind to it and really want it, and I think that's true of almost everyone. We all have our strengths and our weaknesses but I think that the biggest weakness of all is fear of failure and that's one fear that I absolutely refuse to give in to. On occasion I'll give in to my other fears...the lightbulb at the top of the stairs will stay burned out for a week or more, until someone else changes it (though I've done the Grand Canyon thing, ridden in those cable-car-gondola thingies in the Swiss Alps, been on ski lifts, and done the Royal Gorge bridge)...but I won't confess to failing at something I want to do. I might have to work at it, but...

Now the charisma thing I seem to be singularly lacking in. Oh well...can't have everything, I s'pose.

What would make you certifiable -- albeit borderline (because I could see myself doing it) -- would be if you refused to part with any of the 32,000 and STILL kept buying more.

And more.

And more...

Can't have too many books. Just can't. Impossible.

130. I’m not sure there is anything unique or special about me

I guess the most interesting thing I can say about me is that I’ve been interested in politics and history –and have followed the two on a daily basis –since I was eight and my whole life revolves around research and learning about the two topics. I read Nancy Reagan’s autobiography when I was ten, Ronald Reagan’s autobiography when I was the same age, read the first of Richard Nixon’s books when I was ten and had finished Richard Nixon’s autobiography when I was 13. I became actively involved in a political party when I was 15 and have stayed actively involved ever since and all my local Members of Parliament knew me by sight by the time I was 16 –and the national leader of the party knew me by sight by the time I was 17. I had written letters to two US presidents (Reagan and Clinton) by the time I was twelve –Reagan’s office sent me a photograph and President Clinton’s office sent me an automated response but coincidentally he took the advice on foreign policy that I gave him

I lived in Southeast Asia during my youth and, although I went to a British expatriate school, they made sure that we became acquainted with almost all the religions and cultures that existed in my country. We used to visit different places of worship, see various types of lifestyles and eat different kinds of food associated with different ethnicities and religions. So I become acquainted with different cultures and religions from an early age

OK, ok, I’m struggling to come up with anything that makes me a remarkable individual

144. I can read people so well, that some people are convinced I read minds.
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 03:55 AM by Evoman
I have never been suprised by anyone. I find each person more predictable than the next. I also can control my emotions and my reponses to other people almost absolutely. Basically, I show only emotions that I want to show. I'm also extremely good at lying (although, oddly enough, I abhor lying most of the time). If i wanted to, I could easily become an accomplished con man. But I'm not a sociopath...I'm too darn moral to do it.

On edit: Oh..and I have an intense hatred for phones. Can't stand talking on one. I keep all conversation to less than 5 minutes. I refuse to own a cellphone or pager. REFUSE. Its almost pathological. After analyzing myself, I determined that I hate phones for the reason above...I can't read faces on the phone. It makes me extremely uncomfortable not seeing faces. The same goes for online messaging. Its made it hard for me to keep in touch with people.....

150. That's almost
uncanny. Most of the time I'm a fairly good judge of character, but I can be fooled. Sometimes I'm too gullible or idealistic or something. I tend to take people at their word -- always -- until they lie to me or hurt me, then I put this wall up that rivals the Great Wall of China.

And there are very few people that I'll talk to on the phone for more than five minutes or so. It's not a thing like yours, but for the most part I like to say what I have to say and then hang up. Same thing with online messaging. Like the phone, the list of people I'll spend time talking to online is very, very short. Of course, those people will get their ears yakked off.

:P

170. You have no idea.
The only reason I'm even telling anybody here this is because I'm pretty sure I probably won't meet anyone here.

Basically, I can read muscle movements. When I was about 12, I was at the grocery store with my parents. There were two guys standing at the entrance close to where we were waiting for a cab (inside the store). I told my mom..."can we go? Those guys are thinking of doing something bad." I could tell they were going to do something, but I wasn't sure what...they were trying way to hard to hide something. I was very suprised when my mom and the other people around me weren't paying attention to them. My mom said it was too cold, and basically shushed me.

10 minutes later, the guys robbed the Armored Cash truck that made a stop there. I had to go to the police station to make a statement. The cops were pretty impressed with my descriptions.

156. Most of my irl friends assert that I am
"so weird." The antonym for weird is "natural," so by extension, I am "unnatural". I suppose that is some degree of "remarkable".

161. I'd say so...
funny how being natural has become weird and, therefore, almost unnatural.

Go figger.

I'm also good with color, very funny, technically competent, and am even exercising again! (and single too, *hint* *nudge* )

183. hmmm
thats a hard one to figure...I would say, some of the things that sets me apart, I go the extra mile...

If someone is in trouble/needs help, I help them, but I go that extra mile, to insure that the situation is well taken care of, while providing all options for comfort, and support...one of the most common compliments I get from people is, that I surprise them by my gratitude, and for thinking/caring about them...

you seem like that kind of kind, generous, thoughtful, caring person. Isn't it sad when people like you are the exception, rather than the rule? There's not enough kindness in the world.

200. I have a Ph.D. and 2 Masters
But the remarkable part is that my undergraduate GPA was around 2.2.

I was in school at the time of the draft - so I know the military was going to be a part of my future. So I worked just hard enough to graduate, get a commission, and go to flight school. Why strain. My future was planned for me.

So I got lucky with some good GRE scores, got into grad school. Decided to study and make some grades. Things got a bit easier academically after that.
