REIBEL, Earl "Dutch" - 1930 to 2007. It is with great sadness that Dave and Paul Reibel announce the passing of their father Earl "Dutch" Reibel, from complications resulting from a recent stroke, on January 3, 2007, at the age of 76. Dutch was predeceased by his wife Shirley, parents Albert and Anna, brothers Leonard, Albert and Wilfred, sisters Violet and Lorraine and grandson Blair Reibel. Dutch is lovingly remembered by his son David and wife Sue Reibel of Waterloo and their children Aaron and Jessica; son Paul and wife Wendy Reibel of Ayr and their children Andrew and Sarah; his sister Mabel Hrivnak and brother Harold Reibel, both of Waterloo and many nieces and nephews. Dutch was born in 1930 in Kitchener, the youngest child of Albert and Anna Reibel (nee Felbaum). Living in the old northward of Kitchener he excelled at sports at an early age and in 1953 he entered the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings. Playing with future members of the NHL Hall of Fame like; Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Terry Sawchuck, Alex Delvecchio and Red Kelly, Dutch helped lead the Red Wings to back to back Stanley Cups in 54 -55 and 55-56. Dutch finished in the top 10 in NHL scoring in each of his first three years and for his gentlemanly play Dutch was awarded the Lady Byng Trophy following the 56-57 season. In 1957 Dutch was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks and his NHL career ended in Boston playing for former Kitchener neighbour Milt Schmidt after the 1958-59 season. Dutch returned to Kitchener where he married Shirley Ann Wood on May 16, 1961 and began working for Brewer's Retail until his retirement in 1992.
Visitation at Ratz Bechtel Funeral Home at 621 King Street West in Kitchener (ONTARIO CANADA) will be on Friday, January 5, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be in the chapel at Ratz-Bechtel on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 1 p.m.
