brought the rivers up, and a friend of mine is going to Afghanistan for a few months, so to see him off right we all went for a New Year's Day paddle! The weather was sunny and cool (in the mid 30s) but with all the gear we have on it is really pretty tolerable.

Oddly enough, the river we were on (Kitchenwitch can tell you which one it was) gets BETTER in the winter time--the play features get big and defined at lower flow levels than in the summer/fall (we are speculating that it is the absence of streambed vegetation allowing the water to go faster). My favorite playspot "Donut Hole" was kick ass! (Fast as hell, fairly pushy and RETENTIVE (once you went in you got stuck and had to work to get out, you might say it was a "sticky hole" :blush: )That made it easy to carve back and forth and spin spin spin, plus the look of the clifs and woods with a dusting of snow was gorgeous.

Is that a decent story? I didn't have anything prepeared!
