Favorite Simon & Garfunkel Tune

I've been listening to Bridge Over Troubled Water a bit lately, and have S&G on the brain.

it was dropped for The Dangling Conversation.


If i'd have known you'd have voted for it, it would have stayed in.

It's one of those songs that makes me cry and I don't even know why.

...I heard that song as a teenager in 1973 or so and it made me cry - right at the height of Watergate.

I also especially love the version done by Yes.

It is now my second favorite S&G song.

and I think that is beautiful poetry (If I'm right, and I think I am).

Think of the most rich, deep, overpowering black gospel baritone you can imagine. Then imagine it singing "BOTW".

People were in tears. I'll never forget that.

If that weren't enough, just before the end of the ceremony, he and my sister ( a classically trained coloratura soprano) sang "All I Ask Of You" together. It was sublime, truly.

So it was hard for me to pick one.

That's my personal favorite, even though I don't think there's a song by S&G I don't like.

Next to "American Tune", I think it's the best thing Paul Simon ever wrote. My last band used to play this live (Anodyne-era Uncle Tupelo-like)and we loved singing (and cranking up the guitars) on that soaring final chorus. A Classic.

'Silent Night'

Man, that just blew my socks off the first time I heard it. The music and lyrics contrasted beautifully against the ever-increasingly violent newscast.

Followed very closely by American Tune and Heart in New York.

everything they did.

...but Garfunkel's magnificent "Bridge Over Troubled Water" vocals are hard to top.

I like America, The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York, and For Emily Wherever I May Find Her

The Only Living Boy in New York is such a great tune, though. All of them are.

Gives me goosebumps.

Paul Simon has a freakishly brilliant way with lyrics.

Not sure why. Garfunkel's voice I suppose-beautiful...

And, yes, I grew up in the 70s so I remember loving "Only Living Boy" WELL before the Garden State soundtrack ... :D
