Do you know people who are always in a bad mood...
I mean they complain all the time...

Snap at people...

Never smile...

Need some kind of chemical stimulation to "have a good time"...

I use to be like that...

Then I realized that life is far too short to waste on being a crabby pants...

So yea, I still get in a "mood"...

But man, I just don't let stuff bother me as much as it once did...

1. That describes me about 4 years ago
then I met the love of my life and finally moved out of the South. I still have my moods, but I'm not a nihilist anymore.

3. I think it's maturing.....
Taking control of the things that you can and not getting terribly bothered by things that you have absolutly no control over..

5. A little bit of maturing,
and a little bit of letting go of bad things and letting life take me where it may. The path I was headed on, it was either that, or self-destruct. Once I did that, good things started happening.

7. The more we try to hold on,
the more we lose control. That was a valuable life lesson, I think.

2. You used to be like that?
I cannot imagine it!

You must have made quite an adjustment somewhere along the line for that transformation to have happened....

I've seen your moods.......And we all have them.......

It's part of being human.....

Yes, indeed....life is waaay too short to be a "crabby pants."

Welcome to a much better, and sweeter, way to face things....

8. I work with a woman like this
Her attitude is poison. The whole fucking world is out to get her, all the time. Drives me crazy. I'm cynical, but not bitter and angry like she is, and her attitude just grates on me. She gets angry about everything, or at least her tone of voice implies it. I'm just glad I don't actually have to work with, just near, her.

I'm glad you've learned that life is too short to be perpetually angry! :hi:

9. Sometimes it is called Depression
and maturity and not letting stuff bother you isn't quite that simple a cure.

12. I didn't mean to offend
I was just saying what worked for me. Don't let what I said imply, in any way, that depression isn't a terrible thing, because it is. I am not clinically depressed and never have been. I was just in a funk, I'm not in any way trying to take away from anyone who has serious problems. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

14. It's ok
I'm not offended. But sometimes it gets tiring hearing people say "just suck it up and be happy" or things like that. Not that any of you said that. But I just like to gently remind people that depression is not something someone can just snap out of, especially when speaking of other people's "moods". Because you really never know if they are depressed or just a bitch.

I just happen to be both.

No harm, no foul. :)

17. I can see how that would get tiring.
And I would never say that. I have never told someone to just be happy. Clinical depression is a serious issue and telling someone to "just be happy" is no kind of solution. It's like telling someone with lupus to "just get better."

19. From my understanding, clinically depressed folks don't
go around snapping at people or complaining...

They tend to internalize and that is part of the disease...

24. Maybe some don't
And some do. I do. I don't snap at or complain to people I don't know (IRL), but that's more because I have social anxiety as well.

Believe me, I complain and whine and bitch and moan and snap, just ask the people here in the Lounge. LoL.

And yes, I am clinically depressed..Yay me. (<---see that was a whiny complaint right there. hehe)

28. Some of them do, with some it comes out as irritability.

I used to have to sit right next to a co-worker who was ALWAYS unhappy and bitching. She'd come in in the morning, always a few minutes late, snapping and snarling about "G-D" this and that. She had a poor body image and issues about food.

I certainly hope she got some therapy.

One thing, though, she made me think about, How do I want people to remember me? I sure wouldn't want people to remember me the way I remember her!

16. I've known a couple
One was my FIL who is now long dead. I used to call my mother in the early days of marriage with stories of how negative, angry and judgemental he was and how it was making my life hell. A few years later she met him but did not comment. Now that my marriage is ending, she recently told me I was "a saint" for trying to be good to him.

He was the worst, but there have been one or two others. What I don't understand is how they can believe the crappy attitude benefits them - and they must think that. Why else put all the effort into being an asshole?

27. I'm married to one...
:yoiks: :( He's so down on himself that it spills over into his dealings with everyone else. I have had my mother, my sister, my hairdresser (who also cuts his hair), his sisters, three of his friends, and a couple of other people ask me if he's OK because he is ALWAYS grumpy and snappy. I don't make excuses for him--I've told them that he's always like that and not to take it personally. He has several things going on---depression, anxiety, and insecurity. He's been to counseling and taken meds for depression, and he's a little better than he was, but it's tough to live with.
