Question about Snakes on a Plane

I finally saw it this week. Why didn't the US Navy just send an aircraft carrier and let them let land on that instead of having to fly all the way to LA?

8. Well, the first time a pilot attempts a carrier landing...

...shouldn't be with a passenger jet full of people, and it shouldn't be on any landing strip that's too short and narrow. Carriers need days to get places, anyway.
