5. Sundays Have Always Dragged
feel like it's just a day of catching up and it has always felt sad, especially in the afternoon.

Waiting for those clothes to dry so i can go workout, maybe that will help

I think it comes from childhood, when I was dreading school on Monday morning. (I had nuns).

7. Perception vs reality.
And how we perceive reality makes reality seem like a fiction.

Each day happens.

Our beliefs and ambient circumstances surrounding reality shape our perceptions.

But I agree, it's a shitty day. Must be the weather.

19. I am a biologist
we do creel surveys on the weekends (not every weekend- they are chosen randomly and scheduled in advance). Weekends tend to be when people are more likely to fish. It amounts to 1-2 weekend days a month at most so it isn't that bad. I got to leave early because no one came in before 2 pm. Otherwise I would have been there until 6.

25. It's just a survey where we ask anglers questions
and measure their fish. A way of finding out what is happening with the fishery.

I should have been more specific. A creel is an old-fashioned wicker basket that used to use to hold their catch. Some still do.

15. Oh yeah
Today sucks - for lots of reasons

However - it gets brighter all the time and tomorrow may be monday but it is my Friday and I have decided to tell my boss to get bent, I'm not working OT this week, or ever again (no matter how much we need it in my dept) until some recent changes are reversed.

So, to sum up: today = sucky but getting better; tomorrow = a whole new day!

28. I rate days by pain level. This hasn't been a good one. But I did hang out with Mrs R
most of the day, watching football, and had four or five walks with the puppy, so that makes it good on balance, doesn't it?

And Mrs R is cooking a turkey on the rotisserie with all the trimmings, and we're sending half of the food to the next-door neighbors (because the wife is sick and they couldn't come over here), and the turkey is WAY too big for us to eat ourselves.

I like this neighborly kind so stuff.

So, yeah, it is a good day on balance.

and pain sucks and I realize that you live with it daily

so what do I really have to complain about, I ache a little, but nothing that lays me up.

Thanks for reminding me that getting out of myself is really the best remedy for self pity which is probably what I have the biggest case of right now wahhhh wahhhh

78. Yup. If you don't take a good close look at the good stuff, you end up finding yourself
on that bridge railing.

Chronic pain works like that. But the good side is that you become acutely aware of EVERY pleasure in life, so you can use it as a counterbalance.

I enjoy and appreciate things these last twenty years or so that I never even noticed before.

79. Yeah, Those Bridge Railings Are Not Good
knew a girl that jumped off one and she's more screwn than she was before for sure.

Having worked in a pain clinic, I know that it takes a great deal of courage to face he day in pain, and that a lot of people don't necessarily understand that. I commend you on your attitude and outlook and the way you deal with your pain apparently. I saw so many people that I worked with who were just either too strung out on pain meds, or too hung up on how they ended up in pain to be able to look at how their life was suffering because they didn't do anything to change their attitude.

80. You worked in a pain clinic? Then you KNOW. You know about us, the Pain People.
Edited on Sun Jan-07-07 09:37 PM by Redstone
Some day, I'm going to write a magazine article about Us. We live among you, and you never know which of the people you know is one of Us.

We're the hidden ones.

And thank you for your observation about "(people)...too hung up on how they ended up in pain (to look at their life)..."

That's a key point. I am damn fortunate that I realized, right from the beginning almost 34 years ago when I got hurt, that it was ONLY my own bad choices that got me into the situation where I am now (though an incompetent surgeon DID contribute).

But even for those who end up being Pain People through no fault of their own, they DO have to let the cause go.

It happened. You can't change that. You have to go on from that point.

And I'm sure you understand the critical difference between chronic pain and acute pain, as I'm SO fortunate that Mrs R does: The difference is HOPE, or more importantly the lack thereof. (Mine is RSD and nerve damage, so I'm really screwed as far as expecting any medical breakthroughs

People who do not have chronic pain simply CANNOT understand. If you break your leg, it hurts a lot. But you get a cast put on, you itch for six weeks, and then the pain goes away.

But with chronic pain, there is no HOPE, because it's never going away. Never.

It's the first thing you are aware of when you wake up in the morning, and the last thing you are aware of as you drift off to a fitful sleep at night. And when you dream, you are in pain during that dream.

My point being, well, nothing except the opportunity to type these words, and an appreciation of your understanding.

Thanks.

82. RSD, Shit I'm Sorry Redstone
that is one bugger of a disorder. The medical community itself is bad enough in terms of dealing with chronic pain and the type of pain you are talking about is even scoffed at by some in the medical community despite the facts that are out there and well researched facts at that. They've renamed RSD to be called Complex regional pain disorder I think.

Yes I worked as a mental health professional in a pain clinic for 3 years, but the pain docs I worked with didn't refer people to me enough of the time so I saw the writing on the wall and quit.

I miss that work, I got to do some stuff I thought was pretty cool. Training in hypnosis, biofeedback and just got to work with the Pain People as you call them who are really mostly pretty cool people.

I live in Arkansas and the Medical Society of Arkansas has a real bias against prescribing pain meds so there are a lot people suffering here due to ignorance and bias.

Take care my friend!

84. Yes, you do know, and I appreciate that. Christ, they've renamed RSD yet again? You know,
Edited on Sun Jan-07-07 09:58 PM by Redstone
the medical community has been aware of RSD (formerly RSDS) since the goddamn Civil War...and given what's going on in Iraq, you'd think they'd be paying a bit MORE attention to a syndrome caused by high-velocity impacts, rather than wasting time changing the fucking name, yes?

87. yeah, It Still Gets Called Both, But What's In A Name
I know that the ones that really screw with people on RSD is workman's comp. I bet the VA and all do too and with all the IED's going off, you know that is going to be a big issue. In fact I know a guy that has that from being in Iraq and being close enough to a mortar shell that he got hurt pretty bad.

34. Well, my wife just flew to Orlando for a conference this morning.
She'll be gone for a week. That's the longest we've been apart since we've been married. So yeah, today sucks more than a little. :(

got up this morning, went for a run...

Came home, turned on the TV and haven't moved since.

Now the roomie and I are in the middle of an OC marathon (ooy, I don't even watch the OC) and we're discussing the purchase of beer and pizza for dinner. So much for the working out! ;)

How you doin'?

76. Hey, I'm Doin' Better!
finally got around after staying up wayyyy to late

moped around then went and worked out and feel much better, but whooped from sitting in the sauna and whirlpool afterwards. I tend to shy away from that because it drains my energy that I've got left after working out from me. But I seem to be bouncing back

Pizza! yummm!

;)

55. This was one of the better ones of my life.
My brand new grandson came over for the first time. His name is Oliver.
He came a wee bit early, so he's a tiny little thing. I've fallen in love in a BIG way for him.

57. Ahhhhh Congratulations!
that is really cool

That must be a rush!

I know having my son was a rush and while I'm old enough to be a grandparent, I will probably have to wait a while (I hope at least) before my son has any kids, he's 6.

61. It is a rush.
I was there when he was born. My daughter is my hero. She is so confident & calm with him. I remember how scared I was at first with her. He had to stay in the hospital for about a week after he was born, so she got a lot of support from the nursing staff. After watching them she came away with the knowledge that she wasn't going to break him.
It IS the coolest thing.

92. I do.
I've really been feeling rejected by my family lately. All they ever talk about is David, my 1-year-old nephew. My parents won't go home to the sticks because he always needs daycare because my sister is always working and my BIL is always in school. When my sister puts pictures of him on her blog, I'm never in any of them like all the other close relatives are.
