Sally Field
knows a woman who takes time out ONCE A WEEK to take her osteoporosis pill.

Thank god for once a month dosages. Can you imagine losing half a minute of your week?

3. Then you've never taken medication for Osteoporosis
It's not just 'Pop a pill and you're done' which is why they are going to the monthly. Personally, I think this is a good thing

2. It's more than 1.5 minutes to take that stuff - it's just not a pill to pop
Most of those pills then require you to sit upright for anywhere from 30-60 minutes to allow the pill to be properly digested. I know my mom uses the stuff and finds it a real pain. My mom is on the weekly and still finds it a nuisance to have to sit still after taking the pill and is looking into the monthly

9. OMG!
you mean they actually have to .... um... like go to the mall or or something?

I can see how this would be a problem for people in an iron lung, but for normal people, is moving around for 30 minutes a problem?

13. Read Aimiemom's post down below
and no, you can't go to the mall and go shopping while you digest the pill. You have to sit there for an hour and you have to do this on an empty stomach. It is a very difficult pill to take and you find some form of amusement out of it? Shameful!

11. The once a week pill IS a pain and takes more than half a minute.
My mom takes it. You have to take it in the morning before eating anything and wait an hour before eating. And you have to stay upright -- it's not like you can pop the pill and go back to bed for an hour. Since she wakes up very hungry (must run in the family), that hour is a pretty long hour.

The commercial should have made it clearer to viewers who are not familiar with the procedure.

12. Or perhaps those who are not familiar with the procedure should just STFU!!
My mom has the same problem.

18. Yes, the commercial really should have made that clear.
Until now, I assumed Sally was one of the "important" people who simply did not have an extra 30 seconds once/week in which to pop a pill. I'm glad to know the real reason for this, it makes a lot more sense now. Thanks for the info.

14. You have to take it
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 03:44 PM by mzteris
first thing when you wake up. You can't eat or drink anything for 30 minutes except the water you took the pill with. You can't lie down or even bend over for 30 minutes.

It makes you feel like you have "heartburn" for about two days after taking it.

It's difficult to work into a daily routine that you do "once a week". Not that once a month is that much easier, but if you forget it a particular day, you can do it the next or so - there's a bigger window of time. Weekly is a royal pain in the @ss.

They're working on a yearly shot. I'm first in line when it comes out.

edit to add this: my mom developed pretty severe esophageal problems from the once a week tab. She couldn't take it after a while. She had osteo pretty bad and couldn't really do anything about it as the 1x a month wasn't out then.

17. Damn! You don't think of those things when you watch the Flying Nun testing apples
and pumping iron in her office garb.

Remind me to not get old. O...wait...I am old.
