ever had anything strange happen while baking or cooking?
I made a cake the other day, just a chocolate single layer cake, and I was trying to get rid of the bag of M&Ms's I got for Christmas so I dropped a bunch of M&M's in the batter. When I pulled the cake out of the oven the weirdest thing had happened; all the little white M's had somehow come off and floated to the top of the batter, so my cake had little white, perfectly shaped M's all over the top of it. No, I wasn't on drugs. It was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen. The M&M's themselves had all sunk to the bottom, but all the white M's were on top. I swear.

So I just called it my "M cake".

I was a baker for 5 years but this is the strangest thing I've ever had happen. Any other weird stories?

1. The fact that
anything of mine came out of the oven edible, perhaps? :D

I wonder what the hell was in the coating of those m&m's? :scared:

7. I'm thinking now
as I am currently examining one, that they are stamped on. Yep, that's what it looks like, so it must be some really lightweight confection that got just hot enough to lift off right before the coating and chocolate sank to the bottom. I could kick myself for not taking a picture of it; I didn't think about it til after I was done frosting it.

4. no dammit
and it will NEVER ever happen again in a million years, I'm sure. It was so weird. I wish I could explain it. Even the colors sunk to the bottom, and only the M's stayed on top. Bizarro.

8. One time I was tripping severly on LSD, making toast in the toaster,
and heating butter over the toaster on a plate in the DC rowhouse where I lived with two friends, when a poor, squealing, smoking mouse came scrambling out of the toaster and richocheted in pain around the sink. I didn't know how to save it or ease its pain, so I hit it in the head with a rice pot to kill it and put it out of its obvious burning misery. If I had been in its position, I would have wanted someone to do as much for me (and my time for such a thing may come, so I'm glad I live in Oregon).

but I'm glad you ended it's suffering. They will sleep anywhere and every where. I can't leave a bag in my vacuum cleaner because mice like to get in there and sleep.

36. I Know The Layout Looked Like
it was all retro 60's stuff and so I put it on

then I was looking at it and saw that.

I'd like to just get rid of that part. What does a porn princess have to do with a retro 60's layout?

15. My Christmas Eve turkey dinner with all the trimmings
came out perfect--my first attempt--this year--nothing burned, raw in the middle, seared, scorched, squashed, forgotten, cold when it should have been hot, or hot when it should have been cold. A TRUE miracle!

20. This may not qualify
but once when I was heating up the wax I use for hair removal, it caught on fire and WHAT a fire it was! The flames were three feet high and there was so much smoke that the kitchen was filled within a few seconds. I finally killed the fire to find that the was had burned/bubbled/spattered away and much of it was permanently adhering to the stovetop and the floors and walls around the stove. It's lucky I didn't burn down the whole bloody house.

I just don't prefer to have extra eyebrows or a mustache or certain other faux pas. Would a person pluralize "faux pas"? And if so, how?

30. I checked.
It's spelled the same way as a plural but you pronounce the last "s" in "pas" instead of it being silent. Now we know and I'm sure the knowledge will be extremely useful.
