Probably the same people who use Best Buy's Geek Squad to do work on their computers.

1. Home Depot just subs the work out...
my uncle and I used to install ceramic tile for them, and my brother-in-law down in Fla installs kitchen cabinets for them. His whole business is based off of sub contract work from Home Depot, Sears and Lowes.

PEACE!

2. Um...
We bought our new front door at Lowe's, and it was just easiest to have a contractor come out and install it.

We live out in the boonies-- not a lot of options out in these parts for doors.

I've heard too many complaints about Home Depot.

10. They did a great job.
The guy was a little talkative, but other than that I've got no complaints.

5. It's not a bad idea
I haven't had them install anything myself, but where I live, there are a lot of lazy, lying contractors who take the job, then stop returning your phone calls.

I like the idea that these ass clowns have to answer to somebody higher up.

9. We got a bad vibe from their local kitchen contractor
Poor attitude, unbusinesslike. We knew we didn't want to deal with an extensive renovation with this person.

So, we didn't.

11. Sears has done great work for us...
...though it is often subcontracted. There have been horrifying billing mistakes, but the jobs themselves have held up well. Last year's six weeks of no heat weighs against them, though; Sears and my gas company pointed fingers at each other through eight dispatches, until finally we gathered regional managers and senior techs from both companies to identify the fault in the Sears furnace. Thank the Goddess for the warranty.

12. My dad works for the depot
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 10:39 AM by ruiner4u
And he scams plumbing work on the side from customers who don't want to pay for contractors..

Then again, he knows what hes doing.. Ive heard him tell me horror stories that

Hes developed quite a happy customer following...

Edit to add.. Bad use of scams... he doesn't scam the customer, he sidelines from them...I used scams because hes not supposed to get outside work from customers.. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea...:)

13. I had them do our kitchen counters.
The guy who came did a fantastic job - far superior to whoever put in the original countertops. We have an old house with hundred-year-old cabinetry. As the house has shifted the cabinets have also so nothing is level or square. Our guy dealt with it all and the end result was very professional.

Because they do contract out to local people I have no problem with using them.
