'Munsters' Star Yvonne De Carlo Dies

LOS ANGELES Jan 10, 2007 (AP)— Yvonne De Carlo, the beautiful star who played Moses' wife in "The Ten Commandments" but achieved her greatest popularity on TV's slapstick comedy "The Munsters," has died. She was 84.

De Carlo died of natural causes Monday at the Motion Picture & Television facility in suburban Los Angeles, longtime friend and television producer Kevin Burns said Wednesday.

<snip>
But for TV viewers, she will always be known as Lily Munster in the 1964-1966 horror-movie spoof "The Munsters." The series (the name allegedly derived from "fun-monsters") offered a gallery of Universal Pictures grotesques, including Dracula and Frankenstein's monster, in a cobwebbed gothic setting.

1. That is so sad.
Lily is dead. Hermann is dead. Morticia is dead. Gomez is one of the only ones left.

I loved those shows.

RIP, Yvonne.

so is Eddie and Wednesday and Pugsly. And Cousin It. But you are right. For anyone who grew up watching those shows it is sad news. At least Yvonne DeCarlo had a nice, long life. Carolyn Jones was in her fifties when she died of cancer. Grandpa lived a very long life too. I hope TV Land has Munsters marathon in honor of Yvonne DeCarlo.

8. I remember when Carolyn Jones died.

As a kid, I always caught the re-runs, and to this day I collect Addams Family stuff. She died so young, I was shocked, and saddened. That show taught me not to judge people if they are a little eccentric, because really they were the friendliest family out there.

I hope TV land has a marathon as well. I haven't watched the Munsters in a very long time, and it would be good to catch up.

It is good that at least Yvonne did have a long life.

:hi:

3. She also appeared in Sondheim's Follies.

And of course she had numerous credits in TV and film.

When I was a kid, someone in my family -- it might have been my grandmother -- noted that De Carlo was one of the loveliest women in Hollywood, and all that beauty was hidden behind Lily Munster's make-up.

4. This has not been a good day for
anyone with "Carlo" as part of their name. Carlo Ponti has also died, at 94.

6. Dang, that's sad.
Still, 84 years is a good kick at the can. We should be so lucky!
