What is one quirky thing about you?
I refuse to eat food I can't see. :P This has mainly happened while eating in the car. I always have to have the interior light on in those cases. I don't eat in the car much.

Next!

101. She's 18.
She taught herself to play in Junior High. She was a violin player but there were no strings in the school band...so, the band director suggested the oboe. She doesn't make her own reeds...yet. She loves the oboe!
She's really amazing. She's never had music lessons..other than when she learned to play violin in 3rd grade from the school teacher...but she plays oboe, saxophone, guitar, piano and is now working on the flute. (sorry..a little mommy bragging!) :)

6. I check the front door at least three or four times to make sure it's locked and secure.
And if I don't, then remember later in the day, I get a huge panic pain in my tummy thinking that something is wrong with "the girls" (our two cats).

This all started a few years ago when I left the front door open after a long night of bartending (cokehead and cops were involved) and I didn't get home until 5:30 AM. I was so bent out of shape that I completely left the front door open and went to bed. I wake up and someone had stolen my tips, two cameras and a very heavy jar of loose change. What scared me the most was that i was asleep and Jeebus only knows what could have happened to me. And I would have felt horrible if anything happened to "the girls".

I don't have that problem today as it has been corrected, but the anxiety is still there.

And you CANNOT have your back to a window, because what if they throw something through it?

17. I can chug just about any type of consumable liquids as long as it's room temperature
About 2 years ago I almost had an appendectomy and actually had to have 2 MRIs of my colon region that day. And when they do x-rays of that region you have to drink the nastiest of chalk stuff. The technician said I had about 1-2 hours to get the liquids down, it took me less than 30 seconds for about 24oz of the stuff.

38. I have to check the alarm clock in 3 sets of 3 before I can get to
sleep at night. I've always been this way, and I swear if I don't it won't go off/I won't hear it go off. I also give it one (1) last check for good measure.

However, since I have been on the medication, I am able to walk past a jumbled or askew retail display without stopping to fix it.

It wasn't that I wanted to straighten everything out (one time I was straightening clothes on hangers and zipping unzipped jackets, when my friend stopped me and said, "You don't have to do that! You don't work here!"), it's that I truly could not help myself. If I walked by a display of CDs, for example, and they were out of place or upside down, I'd have to stop and fix it. I literally could not stop myself from doing it.

91. Just one huh?
I don't like to record the couple of TV shows I watch regularly. I will if I have to but I prefer to watch them when they air. And I don't mean that I don't want to have to wait to see them. I mean I treat it like an event, a planned little minivacation. It's really annoying me that the new BSG is being moved to Sunday nights at 10PM. That's too late for me (by Sunday I need to get to bed by 10 to be reasonable for Monday AM :) )

So instead of a nice two hour treat at the end of the week with Dr Who and BSG I just get Dr Who and then just catch BSG on my tape whenever I get a chance - so it's no longer an event so it's just a little less enjoyable.

(not sure why) I remember having dreams about it when I was 4 or 5. I was on a soapbox in a park, preaching about the evils of mixing your food. I eat one thing at a time, and the order of consumption is clockwise.

The hour I set my alarm doesn't matter, it's the minutes. So I will set my alarm at 8:01 or 7:59 etc.

I'm checking for snakes under the lampshade. Some cartoons can haunt you.

I'd say that I have "a dysfunctional sense of time," so I have to set clocks and my watch ahead, so I won't be late. But I can't set them all for the same number of minutes ahead, say five, because then I'll think, "Oh yeah, that's five minutes fast." And I'll leave five minutes later.

Does that make sense?

128. Apparently I Have Had
Tourette's Syndrome

per this definition when I was a kid

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=3113340&mesg_id=3113340

CINCINNATI ENQUIRER

It's impossible to navigate through popular culture without having heard about Tourette's syndrome. And why not? It's not exactly your ordinary medical affliction. Unfortunately, for most people, Tourette's is equated with its rarest symptom: involuntary outbursts of cursing and other inappropriate language.

You probably would be surprised to know that only about 10 to 15 percent of people with Tourette's have "that cursing thing," the peculiar urge that is known as coprolalia. I, too, used to think Tourette's was synonymous with swearing. Had I known the truth, I might have been diagnosed decades earlier.

Those who do exhibit coprolalia and other pronounced symptoms certainly deserve much more respect and compassion than they get. More broadly, everyone with Tourette's needs better public understanding, and especially an end to the stigma that surrounds this sometimes bizarre disorder.

Tourette's, a genetic affliction, is characterized by two or more "motor tics" - involuntary physical movements such as facial grimaces or moving the head, neck or limbs in odd ways - and at least one vocal tic, which is usually little more than humming, grunting or whistling. Onset usually comes by mid-childhood, with severity of tics most frequently seen by age 10 or 12. In the majority of cases, tics then gradually diminish to little or nothing by adulthood. The course of each case is as unique as each individual; there is no such thing as a "typical" case of Tourette's.

As medical problems go, Tourette's is, except in the most severe cases, about the most minor imaginable thing to have. It's never fatal, and very rarely a disability. Indeed, countless people live their whole lives without realizing they have the disorder. Countless others know they have it but don't bother with treatment or even getting a diagnosis because they can live with the tics more readily than bothering with highly imperfect medications and their side effects.

137. I won't eat a club sandwich unless it comes cut in quarters
And by that I mean, that has to be the way the restaurant prepares it all the time. Not just when I come in.

143. I have many, many quirks. But, just off the top of my head:
everytime I fill up the car with gas, I ALWAYS start the odometer to 0000 again. It's like a thing with me and I get rather annoyed when the hubby forgets to reset it. :eyes:

146. CAN'T take a drink out of a bottle without putting the lid back on
cannot. do. it.

I only drink bottled water, especially Perrier, but I have to put the lid back on every time. I've tried really hard not to, but it drives me insane.

That is probably less a quirk and more a mental health issue.

149. I carry around a ceramic coffee mug
just about everywhere I go. There's coffee in it and I do drink it. I think it can be compared to people that smoke cigarettes because besides the addiction it may also bring satisfaction holding something. So the coffee mug gives me something to hang on to.:donut:
