11. When I was a preteen a neighbor had a cat that size.
(I know I've posted this before but what the heck). They named him "Wurst" and their toddler rode him around the living room. I swear it.

12. I've seen & held a Maine Coon before. Not as big as this one, but
it was all I could do to hold him in both arms as she is doing. They are so large and so beautiful.

15. Here is a picture of Shadow (neighbor's cat) and me,
Edited on Sat Jan-13-07 09:54 PM by Ladyhawk
taken several years ago. We were both going through a hefty phase, which I am currently repeating (D'OH!). The cat weighed 26 pounds. And no, you cannot know how much I weigh(ed). PTHTHTHT!

18. If I couldn't see that cat's eyes, I would have thought it...
was a baby gorilla. That cat is (was?) huge and has very unusual looking fur!

20. As far as I know, he's still alive.
Edited on Sun Jan-14-07 01:32 PM by Ladyhawk
I was living with my mother when these pictures were taken and I believe she still sees him from time to time. Around the time of these pictures, Shadow had disappeared for several weeks and I had assumed he was dead. When he showed up at the sliding glass door asking for handouts, I was relieved. To get some perspective on size, I was rather hefty in this picture and I'm about 5' 8" tall. Of course, the cat has long hair, but STILL! He is huge. I tended to refer to him as the "massive black kitty."

His fur was usually matted and had burrs in it because he was an outdoor cat (dangerous for the cat and local wildlife, both). At one point, he was offered to me because the neighbors were moving. I decided not to take him because I have a parrot. I didn't want to contribute to the outdoor kitty problem, but after he had been used to so much freedom, I also didn't feel comfortable confining him. Some other neighbors took over the chore of feeding him. :) Several neighbors feed him. You can tell, huh?

16. My brother-in-law had a cat that topped out at 35 lb
He wasn't long or tall, just very stocky. He could move with surprising speed, too, I saw him nearly bag a squirrel once. He did slim down to 24 lb.

21. I had actual "coons" when I was growing up.

This guy was named Josh and he got much, MUCH bigger.

If I ever get a kitty, I would like a Maine Coon, as well. I'm sure they make better pets than actual coons. I raised three baby raccoons and let me tell you, they were NOT meant to be pets. They were entertaining as hell, but played rough and could get nasty.
