What an incredible day. At the peace rally from 1 pm to 3 pm, there was DK and WOW! I know now why they don't let this guy have too much TV time. He gave an absolutely moving, powerful and sincere speech! And to top it off, I met VelmaD! Lots of wonderful speakers and entertainment.
Then on to the concert at 8 p.m. DK didn't say much, just basically wanted the music to move everyone and it did. Michelle Shocked has so much energy, and what a voice and what a message. Several people spoke briefly. I'm terrible with names, so please forgive me, but the guy who played the role of "grandpa" in the movie "Babe" gave a short talk. Darhma's mother from "Darham and Greg" gave a short talk; several others, too. Jim Hightower was an unexpected surprise and in his usual great form. Bonnie R. was absolutely wonderful. While she was singing, DK came out to the side and stood beside my husband to watch her perform. He shook both our hands! I wanted so much to say something, like to tell him I had chatted with with muserider who had housed and fed the "Walk across America" team in Topeka, KS and what a great site DU is, but he couldn't have heard a thing I said as he, too, was enjoying the concert.
The guy from the Dave Matthew's Band played wonderful acoustic guitar and sang some great protest songs. Tish Hinajosa and all the other performers were great. The vibrations were wonderful and their hearts were in the right place.
Willie announced he was going to sing the 'Homeland Security' song with his Homeland Security Band, which really confused me, as I was thinking he was talking about his new song. I just about cracked up when he went right into "Whiskey for My Men and Beer for My Horses!" It was perfect. I will never listen to that song in the same light again. He closed with "What Ever Happened to Peace on Earth?" Then all the artists came out with Dennis and they led the audience in "I Saw the Light," The Circle Will Not be Broken," "This Little Light of Mine," and possibly more.
I am overwhelmed. My daughter bought me the tickets as an early birthday present. She is a Republican, and as I have said before in another forum, I don't know if I could have put my politics aside and purchased tickets to a Republican fundraiser for her birthday. I kinda think we may have been the only Republican funded attendees. There was no way I would have spent the money with my husband going off the unemployment roles on the 21st of December - another Republican tragedy. I guess he won't count now, except with me.
Please, anyone else who was there, please help me out.
