I'm seeing more and more Alabamians here.
How about a check-in with a specific or general location and a little bit about yourself?
Maybe we can have a meet up later.

I'm 62, married 34 years, a retired airline pilot, and a yellow dog Dem since the debacle of 2000. Born in Montgomery, raised in B'ham.
Have a 32 year old married daughter and an 18 month old grandson.
I live on Wolf Bay, in Foley, about 15 minutes north of Gulf Shores.

How about you?
:hi:

21. I spent 4th of July, 1999 at a lake north of Birmingham near a
town called Talledegah I believe. It was a Freedom From Religion Foundation gathering hosted by the Albama Freethought Association. We had speakers and workshops and just socialized all weekend. People from all over the south were there. A local Alabama ACLU lawyer gave a talk about all the havok the right wing fundamentalists (ie Judge Roy Moore supporters)reak locally. That Alabama ACLU earns its pay, thats for sure. The liberals in the south are awesome. The ones I met were anyway.

8. My grandaddy was a yellow dog democrat from the hills of Bama.
He was born in 1895 and died and 1982. Before he took leave of this mortal plane, he gave me some advice. "Just remember: the Republicans are for the rich man. The Democrats are for the common man. I only voted Republican one time in my life and that was in 1972 for Nixon, and look what he did. I have always regretted voting that way. Just remember that."

He didn't have any real formal education, but he was a pretty smart man. He loved FDR. God knows what he would be saying about the unelected President we have now.

I grew up in Birmingham and moved here to Chattanooga in 2000. I miss Birmingham from time to time until I read their paper and realize what a mess it is.

I grew up in LA (Lower Alabama, for those who don't know) and lived in Enterprise when I first started posting on DU. I'm in San Diego now, but intend to get back for a visit, hopefully sometime this year.
