as a feminine douche! You don't have to read the article, just take a look at the advertisements toward the bottom of the page. I am speechless.

40. ya know...
I as a retired science teacher I was tempted to point out that it's not the chemical that's the problem, it's the concentration. And the advertisement clearly said "in proper solution for feminine hygeine." So I'd have guess that this product was not the pine scent harsh cleaner we know the "lysol" name as today, but a very dilute detergent solution, similar to modern douches.

But I didn't think anybody would be interested.

and only recommended by doctors if truly necessary

My mom said it was "all the rage" in the 1950's along with bottle feeding babies... when she breastfed my sister...the nurses at the hospital nearly died of embarrassment for her...

my neighbor's granddaughter had recurrent urinary tract and yeast infections because her mother was leaving her in the tub and with bubble bath way too long because she liked to play with her toys...poor little gal was just miserable and even her grandmother didn't believe the doctor ...so back to long baths and again...the poor kid gets infections...now she takes showers and no problems.

51. I am sure there are women who still believe the rumors but messing with the natural
balance can be dangerous and has left some women with more problems.

I remember my first gyne visit about 20 years go and the doctor told me..."do not douche...it is unnecessary and can cause problems"\

Yeast infections and even other infections can be created by messing with nature....

The poor women who do it today are probably doing so because their mothers and grandmothers told them they have to....and a lot of women never talk about it even with their doctors out of shame...

Hell I know women who have only visited a ob/gyne when they were pregnant...no regular visits...which is why some women's cancers aren't detected until too late.

75. Those ads are so sad
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 10:33 PM by GloriaSmith
It reminds me of the book my mom gave me titled Think Pink. It has magazine articles and ads from when she was a young girl with crap like this lysol ad in it. I look at that stuff and think "I'm so glad we have evolved out of that madness!" but then I look at my own daughter and can't help but think we have exchanged the lysol douche and articles on how to be an obedient wife for botox ads and images of anorexic chic.

Oddly enough, women's magazines throughout history all seem to have the articles on "how to be happy" right next to the articles and the images that keep us insane.
