What do you think of a guy who says something like this?
It's in relation to shoes (high heels vs. practical boots to wear in icy conditions).

"How come when women reach 40 they decide its ok to be more and more comfortable?"

I'm trying not to have a knee jerk reaction. It's a new guy who I met and we have quite a bit in common. He seemed nice when we chatted yesterday, but this struck me as kind of a stupid thing to say. Incidentally, I replied to him that I had no wish to fall and break any bones and that I had almost ruined my feet wearing heels with pointy toes when I was younger. I think he has a shoe fetish, and this wouldn't really bother me, but if he's that stupid to want someone to wear heels in bad weather...:eyes:

1. I have a shoe fetish
But I also have a life and would never ask why a woman would not wear heels while inclement weather conditions exist. Also, there is much to be said for comfort ...

5. It sounded kind of controlling to me
But like I said, I didn't want to have a knee jerk reaction. I love heels myself, at least to LOOK at them, I dont' wear them that much anymore, but not in ice and snow.

23. I can see why you wonder about that
He made a strange comment. Of course, we men are quite capable of being tactless dweebs (at least I am) at exactly the wrong moment. It may not be revelatory of anything but a millisecond's worth of insensitivity.

Yep, kind of a weird, controlling thing. LIke how dare they "decide", or they should wear "fuck me pumps" at all times, just in case. :eyes:

45. This is me
backing out of the issue leaving only these comments.

Yep, I like the way the ladies look in high heels. Indeed, I deem it a fetish of mine. Shameless am I.

Still, a lady's choice of foot wear is her choice. One must bow to the demands of practicality. Twisted ankles are painful in an unfun way. Further, I imagine that the most fashion conscious of women is not eternally in the mood to wear heels, and mood counts.

I found the man's comment weird and inappropriate, unapologetic fetishist though I am. Not knowing the dude, I can not comment constructively on the matter in any further detail.

It's all about the moment, isn't it?

At the risk of digression, I also have a thing for women wearing shorts and hiking boots ... yow. But that line of thinking just leads to more trouble.

8. Complaint + age remark + selfish addition?
"What's wrong with being comfortable, friend?" "Why isn't it okay to BE comfortable, pal?" "I should be uncomfortable for your pleasure, buddy?"

Unless he's scraping the ice at your feet as you walk, he's an ass (in this regards, anyway).

15. Just a sorta funny aside: This weekend we watched The Devil Wears Prada.
As the credits were rolling my son noticed a credit for stunt people.

He said, "Why did *that* movie need stunt people?"

My reply, "YOU try wearing Manolo Blahniks and see if it's not like a stunt!"

To the OP: Your friend better watch out or he could be in some deep doo doo for his remarks. Even fairly innocent remarks like his could be taken the wrong way be some.

20. I watched that movie the other night
They call the women who wear the high heels "clackers" because of the sound of their heels on the floor. Stunt people aside, in the gag reel they had shots of poor Anne Hathaway falling down many, many times. I know she's young, but it's still gotta hurt!

11. Oh Boy.
"How come when women reach 40 they decide its ok to be more and more comfortable?"
Precisely BECAUSE you have this attitude is one reason. The main reason is because they don't give a crap what you or anyone else thinks.

Let me rephrase. What he was trying to say was that he laments the fact that older women don't dress in provactive clothing and especially heels. Yes; he probably has a shoe fetish. What he fails to realize is that IF he were in a relationship with a woman who was over 40; AND he treated her well, loved her completely and WITHOUT CONDITON; loved her for who she was and the beauty of the soul inside her; that she would know this; and would probably humor him by wearing the heels (Hells!) he likes so much.

Idiot.

(and I dance in those heels....)

28. I guess I'm the odd man out here, but not knowing the exact context, it sounds
to me like he was saying that they were being more reasonable. I guess it's the fact that he said they decide it's ok to be more and more comfortable, rather than saying something along the lines of they decide not to be fashionable. If I were to say something like he said, I know that I'd mean it in the sense of, "How come they didn't decide this when they were younger?"

Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 10:27 PM by idgiehkt
I've not been able to in a very long time. I don't know whether it's because I spent my formative years wearing 3 and 4 inch Candies or not...I basically wore hooker shoes through middle school and high school. Now my knees are messed up and even a low heel hurts. I don't know what the deal is with the fetish about high heels. I have fantasies involving people in heels, but it's never me.

edit: relevant because I'm almost 40, lol.
