Question for contact lense wearers
Hi,
I'm going to get an eye appointment today and I'm thinking about getting contact lenses (i used to have them but I was young and didn't like them at all). What is the cheapest pair of replacement lenses out there (those once a week replacement kinds). Isn't their a generic phone number you cal and they send them to you. Like 1800-contact? or something...i'm making that one up, but I seem to remember there being a number.

Anyway. Thanks for the help!

1. Find out what is best for your eyes
The eye doctor will tell you which one is best for your eyes.

2. but...
yeah, but can't you then take the prescription and send it to this phone number thing and they'll supply them to you cheaper? At least that's what I heard...

3. yes, once you have the script, google "cheap contact lenses"

and you can buy them cheaply on-line. Mine are pretty cheap--I use the disposable 2 week kind and a year's supply (for me, since I don't wear them daily--still use glasses a lot) is about $200. I guess if I wore them more it would be more like $400, which is more expensive than glasses, but you're paying for looks and convenience.

edit: one of my eyes requires a special, more pricey, "tourque" lens

Go to Costco for appointment, don't need a membership cost about $80 bucks. Script is good for a year, the disposal lens (Johnson & Johnson) are $14 per box, six lenses. You can wear them for a month easy. $60 per year, for lenses from Costco. I have not found a cheaper source. Good luck.

5. One thing I WOULDNT do.......
I would tell you to never sleep in your lenses, even though many of todays lenses are supposed to be OK for that. I wear the throwaway continuous-wear kind, but i remove them every night and wear glasses before going to bed. I found that sleeping in them caused a LOT of eye matter buildup in the mornings when I woke up, and i figured that wasnt normal. Plus it has to be better for the eyes to rest empty at night, wouldnt you think?
