I love it when people scream at me and threaten me!

It's so much fun. Five minutes ago, while removing a drunk man who'd been snoring and drooling in our lobby, I was told:

"You are a selfish arrogant bitch!"
"Fuck you!
"I hope your mother dies having a miscarriage!"
"I'm going to come here every morning and take a shit on your doorstep!"
"Take your rules and shove them up your ass!"
"I hope you die!"

After each I smiled and said, "Thank you, please move along now."

My job can be a regular laugh riot.

That was funny! Now I can go back to work with a smile.

I'll take him home now--- when he's sober, he's REALLY a nice man. :P

Either some aspect of society gets to them and they break down or some aspect of society gets to them and they break down.

How many well adjusted people wake up one morning, life is going great, they're not mentally ill, and say "Well, that's it, I'm going to wantonly become a wino for the rest of my life starting today!" People don't. Even I don't!

...I try to refer them to service, but this person was nodding out, and stank of booze, and there were people coming in for NA and DA. I just wanted to get him out. We have a rule about hanging out in the building. People can be here for scheduled activities only. I thried to show him our code of conduct so that he could use the building in the future without breaking any rules, but he told me to shove it up my ass.

I feel resposible because I wasn't able to help him, and part of the reason people end up like him is because they slip through the cracks. My job is to help keep that from happening to people. But my job is also to enforce the rules, and keep people out of the building when they're wasted.

Anyway, I know you weren't accusing me of anything, but it's hard to just put people out, even when they're complete pricks.

Never fear. I wouldn't even think of doing anything remotely like that. It's against my own, personal rules. Besides, it's cold up there!

Talk about rants of all varieties, volumes, and levels of stupidity. I looked forward to them after a while as it moved the night along. I didn't provoke the callers, and yes, some did threaten my job. They'd ask for my name. I'd reply "Operator Number One." "No, what's your REAL name?!" "Operator Number One." "What's your first name?" "Operator." "Your last name?" "Number One." "I mean it, what's your real name?" (Are we really doing this again?) "For the last time, my name is Operator Number One. I was named after a maternal grandmother."

I miss my old job. I recommend such a position for comedians in training. It makes you fast on your feet for comebacks.
