Are ALL nine year old boys braindead...or just mine?

Earlier this evening I'm on the computer. My son comes in the office and turns on the gamecube and starts playing.

Me: "Are your chores done?"
Boy: "uh-huh" (staring blankly at screen)
Me: "Bookwork done?"
Boy: (expressionless..completely absorbed in the game) "uh-huh"
Me: "Bedroom tidied up?"
Boy: (eyes fixed and dilated) "uh-huh"
Me: "Did you shower?"
Boy: (drooling slightly) "uh-huh"
Me: "allright."

So I get up to get a cup of tea. The dishwasher is hanging open, full of dishes. I go up and check his room..his basket of clothes still sitting where I put it this morning, full of clothes to be put away, papers all over the floor, toys all over. His books are still sitting in a pile on his desk exactly where he put them this afternoon, so I'm pretty sure he hasn't touched them. There are no wet towels on the floor in the bathroom, so I know he didn't shower.

So I go back down to the office. I tell him to turn off the game and get his stuff done. This child actually has the nerve to look at me with shock, and says "But WHY?"
