Has anyone here ever read Hoka, Hoka, Hoka by Poul Anderson and
Gordon Dickson? (I think the science fiction stories were all written in the late 50s.)

The series of short stories (I think there are 3 volumes) are about a planet of teddy-bear like inhabitants who read or watch earth stories or movies and then create their local society based on what they have read/seen. So there's a 'western' region, a 'pirate' one, a 'Sherlock Holmes' one, etc.

I read my first story years ago in the magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. It's still my favorite story; it's the one that's based on the poem Casey at the Bat.

Hilarious escape reading.
