I'm not at all different in real life. Same here as in the real world.

I am quiet and unassuming on DU. I doubt that 10 people on this board -- okay, maybe 15 -- know who I am.

I try to keep it toned down on DU :P

I am not always gnashing my teeth and thinking about being alone forever! I'm a very good mother with two and possibly three gifted children who require constant feedback and challenges and I am available at all times to meet their needs. On DU I "confess" all whereas in real life I would never burden relative strangers with my thoughts unless I was certain they would be receptive. I'm not so considerate with you people. You would not guess my insecurities by looking at me or speaking casually with me. IRL I am considered somewhat elegant and dignified and have on many occasions been called an "intellectual". Oh, laugh if you must! On DU I suspect there aren't too many who view me that way and sometimes it's interesting to get hints of how far from reality the perception generally is. Of course, lots of you have me figured out and I appreciate that.

Here, I Lurk. IRL I lead. (A staff of 100 nurses)

from our interactions here. When my life was stable, I was a lurker too and posted in GD rather than the Lounge. When the shit hit the fan, I turned to DUers rather than the people I am close to IRL. DUers have given me support without being forced to be emotionally involved. It works for me, and it spares my children and family members the burden of worry. I repay DU by being here for others when they need it. I hope of course that your life never takes such a turn that you find yourself overwhelmed to the point where you require this sort of help. :hi:

I check this site all the time for updates but I rarely post. In real life, I am very sociable and tend to consider it a bad night out if I don’t talk to strangers (in my 20’s and single-I go out a lot!). I’m in a leadership position in the local Democratic Party and not afraid to speak my mind. For some reason, I just don’t normally post…it’s kind of weird.

and a bit more serious and political in GD and GDP.

In real life, I'm dealing with serious day-to-day challenges with two of my three kids. (One, Type 1 Diabetes, another has ADD/depression.) I don't have a lot of time and energy for outside activities and friendships.

i come on DU to just kid around and blow off steam. In RL I am a fairly serious person who does not joke around that much, except when partaking in extracurricular activities. :)

I'm not too different than the persona I display here. I'd say that the difference between DU Evoman, and Real Evoman, is that in real life I tend to be a bit more "charismatic". On DU, because I type like a moron, I can't connect to people as well. I'm also quite a bit more blunt online, since subtelty doesn't play well on the internets.

I also never get mad in real life, whereas on the internet I sometimes write in an emotional way to get my point across.

I've got a bit of a split personality, in that I can be very quiet, introverted, and even shy or withdrawn but I can also -- increasingly as I mature (yes, 'mature' is a poor word choice) -- be pretty much the opposite. The exigencies of my career since I entered graduate school, and certainly the details of my current gig, have probably boosted the second part of my character but it was always there.

ForrestGump is basically me, albeit with some aspects of me amplified (and compounded with not so much an exaggeration as a tongue-in-cheek self awareness). His private parts are smaller, though.

The main difference is that my DU personality lacks the staring-into-space with the "we're all going to die" look.

I'm probably nicer here. I want to be just as kind and caring in real life, but it's too risky.

At large gatherings, I learn so much more by listening to others and watching the spectacle. You probably wouldn't even know I was there. In real life, I'm much less likely to let my guard down and let people know how I really feel. Did that once, got burned badly. Won't be doing it again any time soon.

In 3D, few would believe the nightmare that is my life lately. I don't show it. Aren't y'all the lucky ones??
