Good thoughts, if you would
I just found out that my brand new granddaughter is in surgery even as I type. Any and all good thoughts, prayers, positive energy....she's so little.

I'll let you know when I hear something. She's in good hands -- I've been doing some reading and Children's is good at this type of thing. I just want her home and keeping her mom and dad up all night. That's going to be a while, though.

42. She is going to be fine, isn't she?
I haven't had any news yet...just that she went in at 8 a.m. and that they expected the surgery to last up to four hours and then there'll be an hour of recovery time before they'll really know anything. At this point, no news is good news.

Intelligent being that I am, I forgot to charge my cell phone and I've got errands this afternoon. I don't know if that's a good thing (keep myself busy) or a bad thing (dead cell phone).

You're right...I really do want to make it all okay and this time I can't. This one's out of my control in pretty much all respects.

Update is that she's finally out of surgery. The 3-4 hour procedure ended up taking twelve hours but she's finally off the heart/lung machine and in recovery. She's still got a long way to go but it's a start. Keep those vibes comin'...

73. The surgery lasted for twelve hours
instead of the 3-4 that they were expecting. They were finally able to take her off the heart/lung machine and she's still got a way to go, but she's on her way.

I'm not either...and generally I trust my instincts. Still doesn't stop me from worrying, though.

Keep a good thought for her. No change from last night -- she's in critical, but stable, condition and they expect that to continue until they're able to close the incision.

She's got a quiet determination...she went into cardiac arrest yesterday after the first procedure and then, in the end, came through.

She might be little, but she's tougher than she looks. Her mom and dad better brace themselves. Keep those good thoughts coming.

She's in critical but stable condition. The valve clotted yesterday and the shunt clogged and havoc ensued...but she got through it. They expect her to remain in critical condition through the early part of the week, until the swelling goes down and they can close her up.

We got 'magic sand' for the youngest and that stuff is cool...he can play with it in the living room and it vacuums right out of the carpet.
