I was in the hospital till 1:30 am today with chest pains

The EKG and X-rays all came back negative so they sent me home. I've got a doctor appointment at three o'clock and supposivly they're going to give me a stress test. I'm still really worried here.

That must have been very frightening.

I was more stressed about the test than I needed to be. They hook a bunch of wires to your chest, and have you walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. Just try and relax when you take the test, and it will go easier.

I'm no expert but I'd guess it's better not to worry too much about it as that rarely helps or improves the situation.
But anyways, you should make sure that you can call for help if something happens (like in having the phone close). It's tragic how many can't call for help and are helpless for hours when every minute counts.

I had a similar experience about three years ago. When my husband called our doctor to describe my symptoms, he told us to get to the hospital because of my family's history of heart disease. Turned out to be GERD (gastrointestinal reflux). Sure felt like a heart problem to me! They gave me intravenous Pepcid (that's how the doctor described it), and I was as good as new. So I'm hoping you're dealing with something no worse than that. Take the negative EKG and X-rays as a positive sign.

Many sufferers believe they're having a heart attack the first time they have serious symptoms. It is surely a possibility.

Had chest pains, difficulty breathing, numbness in my left arm.....:scared:

EKGs, stress test, etc., all came out okay.

The second time I went in, the doc who was checking me out started asking questions. When he got to, "Have you been under any stress lately?" it was BINGO time. I was under an enoumous amount of stress at the time.

Turns out, both episodes were the result of anxiety attacks. Been on meds for that ever since, and have been fine.

I don't know if that's the case with you, and it's good they are having you do the stress test, but if no one has asked you about stress or things like that, you might want to bring it up.

P.S. That doc from the second time told me that anxiety attacks are the #1 reason people end up in ER with your symptoms.

Scary stuff but don't be surprised if it turns out to be an anxiety attack. I've had some horrible ones and they truly feel like something is terribly wrong with you (most of mine consist of difficulty breathing but I've known people who suffered from chest pains as well).

It's amazing what stress can do to you physically and of course, the more physical symptoms that manifest, the more stressed out you get.

My doctor tells me to avoid stress - I've always gotten a kick out of that. That would involve not going to work, having nothing to do with my kids and somehow having enough money to pay all my bills. Ain't gonna happen.

Everything negative, so they just gave me a prescription for 800mg of Motrin and said have a great evening.

relax, and take it easy. It sounds like you aren't in immediate danger, and hopefully you are just over stressed and that can be remedied. Heart problems can be treated too.

So know that whatever the outcome, you have some options and the opportunity for care and treatment.

I'm sure it was scary. You have done all the right things. That's all you can do. There are lots of reasons
people get chest pain. Many of them are no big deal and easily treatable. :hug:

Around 7:00pm at college I started getting these sporadic chest pains. When I got home around 9:30 that night it kept going so I went to the hospital. I'm not as scared as I was last night but it can still take you aback.

Took the stress test (twice). They found nothing...

Chest pains can be caused by a lot of things that are not serious. There are lots of little muscles surrounding the rib cage that can get pulled, inflamed, or spasm and can cause pain. The only problem with all this is now I am really reluctant to do anything if I have chest pain - unless it is significantly worse that I've had before.

The pain is one symptom, but if you also have a tighness or heavy feeling in your chest and possible pain radiating from your neck down through your arm, then that would really be something to call a doctor ASAP.

ON EDIT: I am not a doctor so take it with a grain of salt. I've never even played one on TV.

ON SECOND EDIT: Forgot to mention that I also have GERD, a hiatal hernia, a scarred esophogus (from the GERD/HH combo), and have had anxiety attacks. Most likely one of those.
