Another view of the kitchen:

It's been converted to gas, and it's fully insulated. That's a microwave in the top left section. I think this is really cool.

2. I wish I had my digital camera right now!
I'm staying at my my parents' lake house, and they have a cool old side-by-side propane and coal stove. It's disconnected and just serves as a cabinet/decoration right now, but it's what we cooked on 25 years ago when they bought the place.

25. I can remember my mom using one of those when I was wee little.
She also had a mangle to iron clothes on. I only have fuzzy memories of it, but I think it looked a little like this:

8. Growing up, one of my best friends family cooked on one of those, wood fired.
That thing was amazing. Way better once heated than modern stoves. You get such a great heat distrubution on them!

9. All that useless clutter and lack of workspace would drive me insane.
I would find it nostalgiacally interesting for 18 seconds, and then I would start throwing all the junk into the next room so I could actually work.

12. I had a stove like that when I lived in Auburn.
NOT converted to gas. You learn to really cook when you do it over wood.

15. Yes. We have cooked with them up until this week...
The pink one we've had and used for 10 years. I bought it at an estate sale.

The white one I got last year for free from a neighbor.

Our house has new appliances, so for now I think we'll keep the 2 in the garage, or maybe sell them this summer.

16. Gas cooking....the ONLY way to cook.
Seriously nice stove. I'm the only one I know who checks out peoples stoves when I visit their homes. It's the first thing I look at when I'm looking at a house to rent. If it has an electric, I won't rent it. Makes it hard to find a decent place in Florida because of that. I am a fanatic about gas stoves!

17. Oh yeah - I'd much rather cook with gas.
You get better control of the heat that way. Living in the land of natural gas, I sometimes forget that others don't have that option. They have to deal with electric or having propane brought in, which is a lot more inconvenient.

19. I love old-style appliances like this.
Whether I would actually know what to do with it, of course, is another matter. ;) But I love the look. If I could figure out how to work it, and if that's a wood-burning chamber in the bottom, I think it would be a lot of fun to cook with a wood stove. It would make me feel all self-sufficient and not dependent on the evil gas and electric companies. On the other hand, it would take so much extra time that I'd probably only use it once or twice....

21. It's been converted to all gas, so there's no wood or anything else
to deal with. That's part of the beauty to me - splendid looks combined with ease of use.
