3. NYET!
if the chef wanted pepper on the salad, why didn't she put it there? I hate that they ask you if you want pepper before you taste your food, helll, I don't know if your food needs more seasoning until I try it, right? how should I know?

5. I always assumed the whole ritual, like shredding parmesan, exists to provide a "flourish" so that
the waiter or waitress can appear to be providing extra special service, to generate more tip money. Sort of like putting the napkin in your lap, scraping the crumbs off the tablecloth with a butter knife etc.

I find it mildly amusing, the more so the bigger the pepper mill or cheese grater. I always get the pepper and the cheese, since I like both of those things anyway.

8. I'd rather put my own napkin in my lap.

9. i have actually asked
at times, why, if the salad needs pepper, the chef didn't put it on herself? if I want to season my own food, I can do it at home for a lot less money.

10. I'm suddenly reminded of the old SNL sketch "Fresh-a Pepper!"
With guest-host Dana Carvey. Pretty funny.

11. Is that the one where he instructs the junior waiter on the art of pimping the pepper grind?
