There will never be a playoff system in college football
The bowls will never have it. It would dilute the prestige of their games.

The schools will never have it. They have enough of a time programming around the games they know they are going to be playing--imagine programming around games you might not play.

The press would never have it; what sells papers and commercials? Controversy. Tell me what's going to sell more papers: a story about Florida State (say) winning the football national championship game in a Final Four situation, or (also say) the on-field Number 1 Florida State and the on-field Number 2 Tennessee in the Gator Bowl while the computers' Number 1 Oklahoma and the computers' number 2 Southern Cal play in the Sugar Bowl for the BCS National Championship? Who's right? The on-field champion or the computers' champion? Who are you going to believe--me or your own lying eyes?

The fans won't have it either, if you really think about it. It's more fun to argue whether the Gators would have won the BCS championship with Steve Spurrier at the helm or Duke would have won it if they would have gone up in the stands twenty minutes before kickoff of every game and grabbed sixty large men at random.

1. You're right. But for a different reason.
Money. It's about the cash. Period. The Bowls, Conferences, and Colleges make too much money now. Not to mention ABC. The BCS wasn't about a national championship regardless of what they say. It's about money. Universities can squawk all they want about the season being too long, and they're lying. It's about the money a BCS berth gives them. And fans won't make arrangements to travel to a game that their team may or may not play in. So the Bowls would lose money in any playoff system. Therefore, no playoff system will be seen, at least in the near future. And money's the reason why.

2. Yeah, I didn't want to point out the $11.5 million payout
I know if I was the Oklahoma AD, I wouldn't want to pass that up.

3. Do you know how much a consultant group estimated...

...the amount of money an 8-team playoff in college football would bring in revenue every year???

1.6 BILLION DOLLARS.

So don't talk to me about money being a problem. I-A football would be rolling in it if there was a playoff.

4. its about bowl committees
cozied up to AD's and keeping everyone fat happy and stuck in the bowl system.

there would be much bigger money in a playoff but the bigger bowls now would all cease to exist.
