My new obsession: rollergirls
The South does in fact have much to offer they nation. Austin texas gave us the re-birth of women's roller derby. This is not just women rolling on skates. This is HOT women rolling on skates, playing a serious sport, knocking the crap out of eachother, and you too if you're lucky.

To get an idea of what I'm talking about (for the un-intimidated) you can check out the website of the Texas rollergirls: http://www.txrollergirls.com/

It even has cool pictures like this one...

Rollerderby needs to come to my town soon. Also, hooking up with a rollergirl has now been added to my list of important life goals.

9. That's just lovely.
I'm not usually surprised when I see men acting like violent idiots, but when I see women do it, I get very discouraged. It just seems to be getting worse and worse for women, and women don't seem to mind. So glad I'm old.

violent idiots? Jump to conclusions and judge others much? I guess women kept their legs crossed and stayed in their place in your day.

17. In my day, violence wasn't entertainment.
Sure, we had roller derby, but there were rules against violence. Now, people get a big kick out of seeing people get beat up. The young generation is, as a rule, unkind to each other.

18. Here are the current flat-track rules:
http://wftda.com/files/WFTDA_Rules_2006.pdf

Plenty of rules to prevent injury, prohibit fouls, etc.

Pay special attention to sections 5, 6, and 9.

19. My wife joined Burning River Roller Girls in Cleveland last December.
She's on the rookie squad now. Once she gets her speed up, she'll be able to do bouts.
