Poll question: does thread abandonment bother you?
when people abandon the threads they start... and leave others to post there alone

1. I only feel abandoned when no one replies to my threads.

4. That only bothers me when I'm in the 5% that didn't rate a reply, which wouldn't
apply in this case :)

that replies to me, which is normally ridiculously easy, since that might amount to two people.

3. It kind of does, actually.
If I start the thread, shouldn't I at least stick around and respond to those who post?

5. Sometimes people have to do stuff like go to bed, and they post just
prior to doing so.

9. I agree with you there.
But there are some posters who are notorious for starting a thread and that's their only contribution to it. And then posters have questions about the OP that never get answered. These are the examples I had more in mind.

17. I've seen that, too. Seems like kind of a deliberate provocation sometimes, yes?

7. I abandon my own threads all the time.
Ruthlessly kicking one's own threads is a sign of mental illness.

8. Most of the time, no. People have lives, things happen. I try to answer everyone

You do notice if people have a habit of doing it though.

10. I don't always find it possible to post back to everyone.
I might not be at the computer when they post. Some posts just don't require a reply and I don't want it to look like I'm just bumping up my own thread by replying to everyone. Does that make sense?
I really don't take it personally when someone doesn't reply to every post I make. :hi:

12. Yeah, I don't like to bump them needlessly, sometimes I send a comment via PM,
just so they don't feel ignored. Normally that isn't a concern, since I generally don't get more than one or two replies to a thread a start.
I do have one going now with a lot of posts, though it took about 12 hours for it to suddenly take off.

13. I'll post in your threads if you'll post in mine!
:)

Isn't it amazing how some threads just get a life of their own? I've started threads that I thought would be lucky to get 2 posts and even when I come back the next the day they're still going. And some threads that I think would be really interesting sink like a rock. Along with everyone else here I just don't get it but it's still more fun being on DU than the law should allow. :patriot:

11. I've done it a few times.
There have been a few times when I've come across things that I felt DUers might be interested in, but that I had no personal interest in discussing. I've posted them for the benefit of others and never replied to them.

Then again, there have been other times that I simply couldn't make it back to the keyboard. Sucks, but it happens.

16. I do that in the morning.
Have to go to work, ya know.

Sometimes at night, I just get tired and go to bed...but I don't post much so I guess it doesn't matter.
