What is the best gift
that you have ever made for someone and the best handmade gift you have ever received?

I love the concept of the Emerson-ian gift. There is something so special about making someone a gift with a lot of thought that comes from the heart. And, since Valentine's Day is not far away, I was thinking this might be a good way to spark my imagination for something I haven't thought of before.

I actually have two best gifts that I made. The first was a book that told the story of how my husband met and got married. I wrote the story and typed it out in a pretty font, glued it down on the page, and framed each page with ribbon. The final page of the story is To be Continued...

The second gift I made was what I called "The Box of Love". I covered one of those treasure chest looking craft boxes made of thick cardboard in some red satin fabric, lined it with strings of beads that looked like pearls, and put a tassel on the front for a pull opening. I also lined the inside with love quotes written on vellum. I then wrote out 100 reasons why I loved my husband and wrote them inside little heart templates in Word that I printed out on different colored paper. I cut out the hearts and put them in the box to draw out whenever he wanted to know a reason I love him. I gave it to him 2 years ago and he still hasn't gotten through them all. It's a present that keeps on giving.

This is the best present I have ever received:
It's from my husband, obviously.

So how about you?

3. We look at each other in amazement all the time
Like "how did I get so lucky to end up with you?" kind of look. We recognize our love every day and are always thankful we found it.

2. My dear VenusRising.........
Emerson said it best: "The only gift is a portion of thyself."

Your gifts are wonderful!

The best gift that I've given was a love letter to a man I loved a long time ago......

And my best received gift? A love letter!

:woohoo:

4. Oh, CaliforniaPeggy!
Love letters are the sweetest things!! It means so much to get something from someone that expresses how they feel that you can always look at and remind yourself. I love slipping love letters into surprise places for my husband. One day he found one in his wallet when he was walking into the grocery store, and he stood in the entrance with the automatic doors not even noticing they kept jerking open until he finished the letter. When he came home and told me that story I was

6. Those quilts are treasures!
It's especially nice to get gifts that you can share with your children like that. Kids crafts and cards are always great because kids are so honest about how they feel. So sweet.

7. Oh, I love this drawing, VenusRising!
Gorgeous and full of meaning.

The best and most personal gift I've ever received is a leatherbound journal that CMW wrote in daily for six months, and gave to me for my 36th birthday. It's exquisite and full of love.

I'm not sure about the best gift I've ever given, but the one I most enjoyed giving was a summer of Wednesday afternoons for my goddaughters to paint on my patio. They're both getting to be big girls now, and all three of us appreciate those special afternoons. :)
