OMG!!! Led Zeppelin reuniting!!!! Not a joke either!!!
Led Zeppelin to tour again

By THOMAS WHITAKER
Showbiz Reporter

LEGENDARY rockers Led Zeppelin are set to re-group after 22 years for a money-spinning stadium tour of America.

The three surviving members — singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones — plan to hit the road next summer.

The trio hope to pocket £6.4million for the shows.

Robert, 54, Jimmy, 58, and 56-year-old John Paul met two weeks ago at the offices of their management firm Trinifold.

They buried the hatchet over Page and Plant’s 1990s tour, which John Paul only learned about from a newspaper.

A band insider said last night: “If the right offer comes up they will do it.”

I wonder who they'll have on drums?

Edited to add: Never mind. I just read the article. They're planning to use Jason, which makes sense to me.

8. Can they still play?
They haven't been doing much playing for awhile, it seems. I have trouble imagining Page effortlessly reeling off the "Whole Lot of Love" solos at his advanced age.

10. Page had trouble effortlessly reeling off solos when he was a young man...
a VERY sloppy live player

"He played like a twelve year old with a broken hand"

12. I recall listening to a live performance of The Firm, the band Page
formed with Paul Rogers back in the mid-1980s. Page was really struggling with some of the guitar solos, which sounded incredibly sloppy when compared with the studio versions of the songs...

13. Guitarists - all instrumentalists, really - tend to improve as they get older.
As opposed to singers, who tend to lose vocal flexibility. So long as he doesn't get arthritis, he'll likely be a better soloist now than he was in Led Zeppelin's heyday.

17. Hi, asthmaticeog
Jimmy Page will "be a better soloist now than he was in" Zep's heyday? Ok. He has slipped consistently, becoming a worse guitarist as time has passed from 1980 on. Twenty-seven years later, you expect him to be better than in Zep's peak years? Favor, please . . . give me a tiny share of the drugs you are doing -- I wanna be that high.

28. I don't do drugs.
I was speaking to a generality. If Page in particular has been slipping, OK, then he's been slipping. I don't know this because I pay him no mind.

I see all the old guy jokes, but I hope they can put on a good show...I got to see them live in 1978..if you have never seen them live, you ought to go if you have a chance.

The Stones are older now, but damn they can still pull off a hell of a live show. Hope The Zeppelin can do the same.

14. Not to be an ass, but is anybody besides The Sun reporting this?
Sure, it's possible they got a scoop, but a careful read makes the piece look iffy:

A band insider said last night: "If the right offer comes up they will do it."

Trinifold added: "Jimmy is itching to do something, but there is nothing firm yet."

24. Good observation.
The Sun is a tabloid rag that will print anything to sell a paper. I wouldn't put much stock in anything they report unless it's backed up by a less scummy source.

The paper is also a little bit to the right of Mussolini, so I wouldn't believe them even if they were telling the truth.

Oh, and it's owned by Murdoch.

Need I say more?

16. Can't wait to spend $250 to go to a big tin can of a sports coliseum
and to not know whether to watch the big screen up above or the little ant rock star people on the actual stage while I am trying to be satisfied by being able to identify maybe every other song by the clattery echo of a signature riff, while every other bit of song content is still muffled trash. Still I go home and can't hear properly for two days after.

I'm never going to another fucking coliseum show again. Every single one has been a serious ripoff.

Still, though, I do enjoy getting the Led out.

19. This article is 5 years old. It's not true, guys.
Reuniting after 22 years? They broke up in 1980.

Plant is now 58, Page is 63 and JPJ is 61 - the article obviously came from 2002 - although I see it isn't even dated.

They've been "wanting to reunite" forever. But they'd need a drummer to equal Bonzo's stature.

33. I saw Led Zeppelin as a warm up band
I think it was '69 -- they were the warm up band for Vanilla Fudge. Who remembers Vanilla Fudge? Amazing, huh? It was in Seattle and they played the same concert the night before in Colorado. I can't remember the other DUer who saw it in Denver the day before I saw it in Seattle. I do remember my sister and I looking at each other when Zeppelin was on and saying, "These guys are good -- they're gonna be big." Now we're old and gray -- and she doesn't remember. But then, she was my older sister and got to go see the Stones and Cream. Mom said I was too young to go.

36. Seattle was 12/27/68; Denver was 12/26.
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 01:47 PM by Vox_Reason
Yes, no disrespect intended to the OP, but disregard this article, it's years old and tabloid trash that had exactly zero truth behind it. Take it from one who knows.

A complete tape exists of the Spokane 12/30/68 show; it's fairly good quality-wise, especially considering the age of the tape and the primitive equipment that was likely used to capture it. For years, that tape was misidentified as being from Denver, most notably on a vinyl bootleg called "Alpha and Omega".

Rumors have circulated for years about a tape of the Seattle show being hoarded, which I have no trouble believing because there were a lot of tapers in the Seattle/Vancouver area back then.

In other news, the last night of the 4-night stand at the Whisky a Go-Go in LA on January 5, 1969 surfaced recently, and that's a really nice tape.

37. Hi Vox!
Sorry I forgot your name in my post above. It's a great memory, that's for sure. It amazes my students, until they calculate how old I must be to remember that. Then I tell them I was alive when Kennedy was assassinated and they think I'm a fossil. I guess at 16 I thought that way too.

Why would I go see people as old as me trying to cash in on the nostalgia tour of the day? They ain't never gonna sound as good as they did 35 years ago, period.

35. You know, I kinda thought the same thing, but then I've heard John Paul Jones
in Chicago a few years back and that man still has the talent to pull it off. He was really the most underrated member of that team and I didn't appreciate it until I heard him solo. He could make them all sound so great.
