Valentines Day gift ideas? I need help from the DU ladies.

Hi Fellow Loungers, I have a dilemma.

I am in MN working, and I have a very special girl in Michigan in grad school for one more semester before she comes back to MN as well. my problem is this, valentines day is on Wednesday this year and I cant go to Michigan mid-week due to work.

SO, I need to make sure she knows I am thinking about her, and get her something but flowers are so cliche.

I was thinking about getting a really soft cuddly teddy bear and some chocolates along with a note and sending that but not sure if it is a good idea or not?

Do any of you DU ladies have any good ideas for me?

and what are her interests?

500 bucks, I got her an iPod nano with engraving on the back and a necklace, and put some of her favorite jazz albums on the iPod. SO I think thats a good price range.

I think you're on the right track in terms of wanting to give something unique. Sending a 10-15 minute video of yourself would be fun...especially if it was you documenting your hunt for the perfect Vday gift. The funnier the better. So if you do get her a teddy bear (or whatever you decide on) then she could receive that and the video at the same time.

Gift wrapped and everything. Since she's in school, you could send her some things that would help her relax. A basket of bath things and some roses, because she works so hard and deserves to take care of herself. . . or something.

I have never ordered anything through amazon.

Regular shipping is still pretty reliable too.

Food is good, but if you have some other talent, do that. Just make her something nice and send it. Even a very simple handmade gift is generally much more appreciated than a storebought one. If you're kind of inept in the kitchen department, just get some pre-made sugar cookie dough and some heart shaped cookie cutters, make some heart shaped cookies and decorate them with some icing, colored sugar, etc.

I might just do that.

Personally, I wouldn't want roses. But orchids (cut or potted) are beautiful. And Godiva chocolates. It's the one time of year women can eat chocolate without guilt. Perfume or bath & body stuff along with both of these would be my perfect gift. I love Victoria Secret's Heavenly. It's soft and sensuous.

If you're concerned about cliche...roses are the worst. You need to be a little more unique. Send her some exotic flowers...something different. The rest sounds good.

Red roses signify love. That will NOT be lost on your girlfriend.

Tulips are beautiful, too, but red roses say "I love you." A dozen say "I love you lots and lots." :D

To each his own :) Maybe because I'm older and had them but red roses are ho hum.

Do you know what flower she likes? I love tulips so I love the first one. But, it's so very personal..you have to find out what she likes before me or anyone can make suggestions. She may LOVE roses! :)

good luck finding the one that release that wonderful smell all over your room. Most roses these days are all show no fragrance. As GloriaSmith said above, make her a video too. After the flowers are dead, and the bear has been torn up by the (hopefully future) kids, she'll still have the video.

Was a simple, handwritten letter on nice stationary that talked about where we had been in our relationship on past Valentine's Days and where my guy hoped we would be for each of the next 50 Valentine's Days.

It clearly took a lot of thought and planning, and it was simply wonderful!

co-workers were blown away. I forget where I originally heard about it, but I sent her a barbershop quartet. They came to her work, sang 3 or 4 songs, gave her a rose and a Valentine's card. They have a barbershop professional organization, so you can place an order pretty much anywhere in the country. My wife was blown away because she got 4 elderly gentlemen dressed with the red bowties and straw hats. They were really awesome, it ran 40 bucks and I just double checked and they are still the same price. They do this as a fundraiser for their organization.
