18. I was actually born in 1978.
I voted 8-track b/c that is my earliest memory. My parents have (yes have) an 8-track player in their alarm clock. I used to beg my mom to let me listen to it.

Didn't get a cassette player until I was like 12 years old.

58. Mostly cuz I couldn't think of anything to say and thought I'd punt with "interesting"
in the hopes I could spin out a long line of inane BS based involving your choice of 1978 -- but since you promptly caught on ("really didn't have a lot to do with it"), that plan's shot

Frankly, I have to admit I don't really remember a lot about 1978, except looking at a buncha books on organic chem and group representation theory in spectroscopy and some of van Heijenoort's stuff. Oh, and getting hit by a thrown potato while walking a picket line.

"Really, I'm only listening to CDs here cuz I don't have a CD player at home" just doesn't get the "Well OK then" response quite as often as you'd think it would

a fact critically important for the accurate reproduction of a player's extended performance, since paper is relatively easy to punch and roll

as to where my turntable is. When I moved back east, it was in a box with my Marantz receiver, and I never set it up. I have a pretty good album collection, but I don't think I'm ever going to listen to much of it again. I did recently buy an album (from 1964) of an old favorite and had a friend put it on CD for me.

One of the first albums I purchased myself was a Pauk Revere and the Raiders from 1967 at a Woolworth's. There aren't too many of them around, either. (Woolworth's, I mean!)

Mid 60s was a truly awesome time period for music, IMHO. But then I'm biased to that era.

I hated cassettes. They broke so damned easily. It was a helluva lot easier to buy blank cassettes and record the albums to tape. That way, you had an archive copy, and you didn't need to worry about the tape if it messed up.
