I've Found My Bookstore!!!!
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 08:02 PM by RetroLounge
:woohoo:

Too bad it's the wrong time to go bricks and mortor...

http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/off/271372380.html

But this building looks fabulous!

Maybe what I need is a partner. Any takers?

56. You absolutely MUST go and see it.
It may put your mind to rest one way or the other.

It has got a lot going for it visually and romantically, I'll say that.

It is the kind of thing I would jump on, if I could. (If only my record of recommendations were a guarantee of success. Thank god I didn't invest in Eskimo Pie!)

Man, I really, really want good things for you!

My initial cost is already paid off, but I have so much debt that there's no way I could buy it at this time.

But a live/work building is what I want.

Can you imagine posting on DU from the turret? That would be cool...

14. That looks really nice.
Even with the debt, if the foot traffic is enough for walk-in business you might be able to find some small business loan or something.

Off topic, but on business: do you have a copy of Mike Davis' "Magical Urbanism"- I need it for a class and would like to pass some walk-in business another DUers way.

That's less than half of what an unimpressive house in a lousy neighborhood would cost here, and anyplace comparable to that is going to be well over half a mil and the sky's the limit in a good location.

you can still run the online component out of the shop yes? UPS/FedEx will come to you. is there room for a coffee/drink area inside? will you need a permit to do so? can you place reading areas outside? how much of the frontage i.e. sidewalk, are you able to utilize? cause it looks like there's good sun exposure. how much?

The price sounds too good to be true. You really ought to check it out!

I do know of another house/shop for sale in Milwaukee. Right now it's a magic shop - even has a very small theater. I don't know what it's going for but it is a whole small house plus the shop area. However, it's not near as cool as the one you posted!!

Also, there's a building in Madison on Willy St. that would be perfect. It has two upstairs apts/condos (I think) plus beautiful downstairs, hardwood floors, fireplace, big windows, etc... if you're interested in moving to Madtown.

I'd love to buy it myself, but I don't know what I'd do with it. lol...

The bldg on Willy St. is next to the Lazy Janes cafe. It was listed when I moved here back in August. I saw it up close just last week and it was still for sale - but I can't find a listing now. I'll keep looking, though.

hopefully sooner rather than later...

74. That is just about perfect.
And if I had the money, I'd be partner in your store in a heartbeat. :-)

78. Depending on the area and building condition,
it looks to be a steal at 150,000.

If I wasn't in Dallas, I'd call the seller and have a check sent over. :)

I wish you luck!

83. Still on your brain and in your heart?
Maybe the Universe is doing more than knocking at your door?

Have you seen it yet? Just a drive by or a real feel-the-energy walk through?

You could just call a realtor and take a stroll through it, you know. It couldn't hurt anything. Not really.

84. Okay, I did a drive by today...
Really nice building, really the wrong location for a bookstore.

I'll post some pics later on.

Well, the drive-by cured me of this building.

I'll keep looking elsewhere.

85. I would think that something in the lower east side would be a good place for a bookstore...
but I would imagine building prices are higher. Good luck.
