Do the schools in your area still have recess?
Last time I drove by the nearest school, kids were outside so I assume the schools here still have it. We got two 15 minute periods (as a privilege, not a right, it could be taken away) each day.

1. in my district, yes
but i know another district in the area got rid of them and all hell broke loose.

we had two recess periods until we hit 5th grade, then it was one. and like you said, it was a privilege, not a right.

i still can't believe some districts are pulling recess. those kids need to burn off that energy

2. It's stupid to pull recess
Kids need to get out and run around. That's all there is to it.

And I had two recesses a day, through 6th grade. It may have been a privilege, but the school also realized that it was necessary.

3. Yes, but they are decreased as the kids get older and are
eliminated, usually, by Grade 6.

4. Oh grrrr. My son gets 25 (twenty-five) minutes for lunch and recess in
the third grade. Sometimes, if they're "very good" they get an extra 10 minutes in the afternoon. Maybe it's just been awhile, but I thought we had a bit more time than that when I was a kid.

Heck, in kindergarten I had a full day and we got recess and 2 (two) naps! I still fell asleep in my mashed potatoes at night but that's another story. :hi:

5. We had 30 minutes for lunch and 15 minute recesses in am and pm
We also had gym class outside in nice weather, and my hungarian 5th grade teacher would take us out to play soccer when it was nice out, to get in the fresh air and use up some energy.

10. Unless it's too cold, yes.
But this is Minnesota. We've had school in session during -20 degree temps, so it takes alot.

11. Yes, for the elementary kids...
K-6...only one recess though. My first sub teaching job, I gave the kids a second recess, because they were a good bunch of kids...they were totally shocked that a teacher would give a second recess....but, on a sad note, the school district here, still believes in corporal punishment...I felt like I went back in time, when I found out that tidbit....
