Who Is Your Favorite Stand-up Comedian?
I love stand-up.

And my all time favorite is Paula Poundstone. I guess because she was just so funny - not gross or obscene, doesn't use bad language or make crude sexual jokes. She is just funny.

85. Bwwwwaaaaahhhhh !!!!!!!!
I love that one:

Me and my friends did acid in the woods, 'cause there was much less chance of running into an authority figure. But we ran into a bear. And that is way more of a buzz kill. I looked around and saw my friend swearing to prevent forest fires. Later, he came up to me and said, "Mitchell. Smokey is way more intense in person".

Some of my other favorites:

When you go to a restaurant on the weekends and it's busy so they start a waiting list, they say, "Dufresne, party of two, table ready for Dufresne, party of two." And if no one answers they'll say the name again: "Dufresne, party of two." But then if no one answers, they'll move on to the next name. "Bush party of three." Yeah, but what happened to the Dufresnes? No one seems to care. Who can eat at a time like this? People are missing. You people are selfish. The Dufresnes are in someone's trunk right now, with duct tape over their mouths. And they're hungry. That's a double whammy. We need help. "Bush, search party of three. You can eat once you find the Dufresnes."

If you find yourself lost in the woods, fuck it, build a house. "Well, I was lost, but now I live here. I have severely improved my predicament!"

I like the FedEx driver, because he's drug dealer and he don't even know it. And he's always on time!

You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later.

I like an escalator, man, 'cause an escalator can never break. It can only become stairs. There would never be a "Escalator temporarily out of order" sign, only "Escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience!

Whenever I walk people try to hand me out flyers. And when someone tries to hand me out a flyer, it's kinda like they're saying "Here, you throw this away."

Because of acid, I now know that butter is way better than margarine. I saw through the bullshit.

If carrots got you drunk rabbits would be fucked up.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Ok, I know I quoted a lot, but he's funny and since he's no longer with us, those who love his humor have to keep it alive.

86. Those are awesome.
I'm really going to miss his very unique views on life.

*I was in a casino, I was standing by the door, and a security guard came over and said "You're gonna have to move. You're blocking the fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammable and have legs, you're never blocking a fire exit. Unless you're a table.

*They say the recipe for Sprite is lemon and lime. But I tried to make it at home; there's more to it than that. "Want some more homemade Sprite?" "Not 'til you figure out what the fuck else is in it!"

*I'm not good at golf, I never got good. I never got a hole in one, but I did hit a guy. And that's way more satisfying. You're supposed to yell "Fore", but I was too busy mumbling "There ain't no way that's gonna hit him."

of seriousness to humour, and it only makes the humour more biting! But then many of the deepest areas of truth are, I believe, the ones with the most potential for the wildest hilarity.

And was it Bill Hicks who did the video of Bush mending fences on his "ranch"? That was brilliantly funny?

I bookmarked those George Carlin video clips which appeared on here a few weeks ago, but they don't work any more. When I persevered, I got a message to the effect that it had been used without permission or something like that, and I had posted the link to a few other places, so it may have been directed at me personally.

there are clips of her on youtube. She uses colorful speech a lot but she is hysterical. I first got introduced to her watching the Queens of Comedy special she did with Adele Givens and Monique and one other lady whose name escapes me. That is the funniest comedy show I have ever seen, I've watched it like 10 or 15 times and each time it's hysterical.

53. Lewis Black is awesome.
Edited on Sat Feb-03-07 04:15 PM by EOO
No matter how much Bush has fucked up, Lewis Black can put in a perspective better than anyone in mass media.

I also have to vote for Bill Hicks, George Carlin, and Lenny Bruce. Dave Attell is pretty funny, too (his cameo in Arrested Development is GOLD).

77. I agree. I had never heard anyone tell the truth like her
I'll never forget her standing there in her great big overalls with her nasal voice, and I could relate to everything she said about working class American homes. I even remember some of the jokes she told..."My husband told me to get him some cheetos so I told him he could just lift up that sofa cushion himself." LOL. And "Why are men always asking women where stuff is? It's like they think the uterus is a tracking device." I had never heard anyone tell jokes like that before. People forget what an innovator she was. I also loved her show, and love her to this day in fact.

New favorite: Steve Carrell. Hilarious in "The Forty-Year-Old Virgin" and "The Office".

Classic comedy: Ernie Kovacs. That man was a genius who was way ahead of his time.

I've listend to both upteen million times. It took, um, let's see, fifteen years to get tired of Bill. I guess Lew has another decade or so.

Dave Attell, Sam Kinneson, Ron White, Robin Williams are also up there. Oh, and Chris Rock, too.

89. IMO Paula Poundstone is the funniest person on the planet
Everytime I've ever seen one of her routines (especially her back-and-forth with audience members), I just laugh myself to the point of tears. (Even though no matter how hilarious I find some people's sense of humor, I don't often laugh out loud).

I was going to name her as my favorite based only on the title/question of your thread. How cool that you and quite a few others named her as their favorite. Especially since one doesn't see her on television very often these days.
