Does anyone remember an acapella cover of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me"
Does anyone remember the name of the band that did an acapella cover of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me" that was getting some Top-40 airplay in the mid-late 80's (1985-86?)?

(I'm trying to impress a cute female co-worker  and this just might do it)

BTW: Google might be your friend, but Google's no friend to me...

2. I don't believe there was one
Sounded familiar to me too, so I looked up the wikipedia page on the song.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand_by_Me_%28song%29

Says that the original version hit the top 10 twice: once when it originally came out and again in '86 when the movie was a hit.

As far as cover versions go:
"Both John Lennon and The Kingsmen have covered versions of this song, Lennon in his 1975 album "Rock 'n' Roll," and the Kingsmen in various concert performances. Punk band Pennywise have also covered the song on their 1989 EP A Word from the Wise. Otis Redding also covered the song once. U2 covered the song frequently during their Joshua Tree and Zoo TV tours between 1987 and 1993, notably with one performance in Philadelphia where Bruce Springsteen joined them onstage for the song, and was often snippeted during the 1997-1998 Popmart Tour after "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". On their 2005 American Idiot tour, the punk rock group Green Day often used elements of the song during a medley with The Isley Brothers' "Shout." Adriano Celentano covered the song as Pregherò."

And that's all it says.

3. Thanks for the try
Thanks for the try though. I appreciate it. I googled it a bunch this morning with different combo's of keywords and nothing came up that I was looking for.

But, you're right-- it sounds really familiar-- almost on the tip of my brain, but not quite. Too many damned pastel parties in the 80's must have blew out a lot of my synapses...

A DJ in the mid-eighties? That must've sucked...

Sorry... a bad, somewhat self-denigrating joke ('caue I've got a special place in my heart for bad eighties music)

Thanks for the link-- I'll give it a look this weekend!

10. How did you know cherry pie was my favorite?
And I spent a little time listening to some of those clips (the ones that were there). I didn't really hear anything a capella, so you might be out of luck there.

But if you happen to like that song...

:woohoo:
