Yolo County (Calif.) Clerk to give 'certificates of inequality' to gay couples
Feb. 2 - KGO - A county clerk outside Sacramento has come up with a unique Valentine's Day idea for same sex couples who want to get married. But the Yolo County clerk's proposal is drawing fire from those opposed to gay marriage.

Same sex couples who'll try to get married in Yolo County this Valentine's Day will be in for a surprise. In addition to being told 'no', Clerk-Recorder Freddie Oakley will be giving out 'Certificates of Inequality,' made on her home computer.

"I want to give them something to take away that says: 'I personally respect you and believe you should have the same rights as everyone else.'"

(snip)

The mother of two, in a traditional marriage for 37 years, is herself an evangelical Christian who says she just wants to make a statement.

7. I don't know about Yolo County
but in most places, the county clerk is an elected official.

3. Good for her.
She's expressing the truth. I'm sort of surprised her fellow Christians are upset about someone speaking the truth.

If you aren't allowed the same rights as others, then you don't have full equality. Sounds pretty simple to me.

4. I think that what she is doing is brilliant.
I think that there is no harm being done here at all. It's giving something to the people who come in for services who cannot, by law, participate in the service. Besides, if it makes the people who get them happy then that's all the better. The guy who believes in same sex marriage is completely off base with his remarks. The woman is not giving out certificates to everyone who comes in, thus spreading her opinion around. She is honoring and supporting all the people that she comes in contact with. I find that very respectable in public servants.

6. I hope everyone notes...
that she is an evangelical Christian!

She's a nice reminder that they are all not batshity crazy bigots.

Kudos to her for remembering what Christ's real message was and living it. :applause:
