So Cal meet-up picture thread! {{ dial-up warning!!!!}}

On Saturday night, several of us in the Southern California area had a great meet-up. We met in Long Beach at the Rock Bottom Brewery.

It was so great to meet everyone. Putting names and faces together and meeting these online personalities in real life is actually quite fun!

Then we walked down the street to Dublin Square, an Irish pub. It was so loud outside, we sat outside and drank coffee. My outside shots aren't as clear as the ones from the Rock Bottom.

Everyone seemed to have a great time. Although the Rock Bottom told us we only had two hours and then another large group was coming... nice they waited until we got there to let us know. But you know what, we stayed until we were ready to go... two hours and thirty minutes. If they had tried to make us leave a minute earlier, I was ready to stage a sit in! :rofl: The Ultimate DU Meet-Up! Police must be called! :rofl: It's not the ultimate until someone gets arrested! :woohoo:



For those who attended and anyone who would like to, I'd be happy to set another one up in the future, perhaps in a couple of months from now...

When I lived in L.A., I got to meet Peggy and XemaSab. :hi:

If you're ever in the LA area again, we'll have to have a meet-up!

I forgot to put my pomade on it in the morning, then I spent half the day birding in the wind. It was EVERYWHERE then I put a little water on it before the meetup hoping that the water would help.

GREAT shots ..... We have a regular monthly meetup in Portland ..... Looks like you enjoy them as much as we do .....

I've heard about the monthly meetups in Portland.

Do you have a regular spot and time or is it a different place and time each month? Do the same people come every month or do you get a varied mix of people coming and going?

I know they razed most of it, so whatever is left is a sliver of it's former self .... I recall riding the Cyclone Racer, and Bumper Cars, and those silly-ass horse race machines .... Oh and: Awesome arcades with ancient pinball machines ..... Since it was built near the turn of the century, it was pretty much run down by the time I arrived in the 60's ...

As far as our Portland Meetups: We have a weeklong 'open floor' thread prior to the meetup date, and everyone who cares chimes in with a choice for that meetup .... We usually select new locations each month, because Portland has a simply amazing selection of bars and brewpubs that NO person could get to fully experience unless they keep choosing new sites as much as possible .....

We do have a couple of default locations, in case a fallback position is needed, but the variety is so tremendous and the interest so high we rarely use them .... We actually found our new 'favorite' this weekend (The Horse Brass), so that gives you an idea of how kewl it is to keep an open mind when looking for venues ...

We have a core group who always come, and then others (dare I say stragglers ???) who come when they get time and a whim .....

Having been a Long Beach denizen (Starr King Elementary, Hamilton JHS, Jordan HS, LBCC, McDonnell Douglas employee)... I know there are MANY places to go there .... Redondo Street : Second Street : Ocean Blvd .. all would have great possibilities, Im sure .... Joe Jost's was a nearby bar for us which we visited often (Schooner and a Special !) .... Seal Beach, The Strand at Redondo, Hermosa, and Sunset Beach also had great little bars and pubs .....

Damn .... Now I'm missing the place ....

Kerrytravelers, I see you wasted no time in putting the pictures up on DU; I saw them when I turned on my computer and went to DU right after I got back. However I needed to recover from the train ride both ways, so I didn't feel like posting right away. Plus I had some other things I needed to do, so I am finally able to post now.

Thanks very much, KT, for putting this together. I hope to be able to attend future DU gatherings if you have them.

I took Amtrak from San Diego to Los Angeles, and then the LA Metro Line to Long Beach. The Amtrak train stops at Irvine, Santa Ana, and Anaheim; it would be great if there were some line between any of those places and Long Beach, which would have shortened the trip considerably. I could drive but would prefer not to.

I have now joined the club of those who have their pictures on DU.
