Not after they walked in while my brother and his friends were cleaning a 5-lb pile of pot on the dining room table. "WHAT IS THIS, A GODDAMN MARIJUANA FACTORY?!?" my father bellowed. "Leave it outside for the squirrels," said my mother.

Yeah my mom wasn't exactly super diligent in that regard either
I just count myself lucky that I came out of it healthy (at least physically so.)

And he's close to his nieces and nephews.

We plan to move back to civilization as soon as he's done with school and we've saved some money--far, far away from the pod people.

My mom would not ask directly on such issues, but would drop really blatant life experience hints that made it obvious that she suspected I was up to something or other.

One night I showed up at 2:30 and she thought that I'd been up to no good (actually I had been at a strip-club), but for some reason she must have suspected that I had been smoking pot and said something along the lines of: you know, I tried pot and it didn't do anything for me. It's a waste of time. I nodded and went happily off to bed, knowing that she'd not have cause for further concern because I had never touched the stuff and would not for quite some time.

And when they saw the episode of Roseanne some 3 years later when Roseanne asked Darlene the same question, they'd have understood... Darlene hadn't either...
